“WHERE ARE WE HEADED exactly?” Staring out of the window, Eden glanced back at Cole for clarification.

They had been driving out of the city for about fifteen minutes in a similar direction to the one where he’d encountered her last night, and were headed toward Fireside mountain.

“To the elevations,” he replied, easing his foot onto the gas now that they were finally free from the city traffic.

“We’re going mountain climbing?” Has he completely lost it?

“No.” He smirked at her interpretation. “A dragon just needs somewhere to stretch his wings.’

“Oh, right.” She nodded. The dragon’s back. Perfect. “Well that makes sense.”

“I said I’d show you,” he reminded her. “And I meant it.”

What was I thinking getting into his car? She blew out a breath, her attention returning to the passing landscape though her hand slid to her phone, which was tucked into her jacket pocket. He could do anything with me out here.

“You don’t need to worry, Eden.” He glanced at her briefly.

“Are you listening to my thoughts again?” Gaze narrowing, she shot him a feigned glare.

“I can’t help it.” He laughed softly. “I haven’t learned how to block them out yet.”

“I don’t know how you’re doing it, Cole, but it’s an incredible skill.” Her eyes shone with genuine awe. “I’d love to work with you to learn more... if you’ll let me?”

“Sure,” he answered, taking the turn that ultimately led to the Vaughn mountain lodge. Eden had no idea yet, but they would be spending a lot more time together. It could be useful if she had something productive to do aside from polishing his cock.

“It’s beautiful out here.” She glanced out of the window.

“I love it.” Cole smiled. “The mountains have always been like a second home to me.”

“I can see why. It’s funny. I’ve lived here for years, but have never really come out this far. Last night I took the road back to town.”

“Well, I’m glad I’ve been able to change that.”

“Yeah.” Her lips curled as she peered back at him. “You have.”

“Not far now,” he told her. The small hut his family used when they flew to the mountain lodge waited ahead, but Cole didn’t intend to go that far. He only wanted a space isolated enough to shift for Eden.

You shouldn’t. Balthazar’s voice jarred in his mind. You shouldn’t be shifting in front of her.

Cole straightened at his brother’s warning. There might have been a time once when he would have listened to Balthazar, when the word of his eldest brother was law, but those days were done. Balthazar and Sebastian had elected to share the family secret with the special women in their lives, so why shouldn’t Cole do the same?

“I didn’t realize there were any places as remote as this near the city,” she replied, her gaze scanning the area.

“You’d be surprised.”

Easing the car into a lower gear, he suppressed his chuckle as he came to a halt. Eden was about to be extremely surprised.
