“Not so far.” She shrugged, her gaze falling to his hand as his thumb stroked over hers. “Maybe once I’m as old as Jeffries.”

“Is that your boss?” Draco didn’t know much about the law, but since he’d decided to get out of his father’s marital contract, he’d spent the last few days trailing though local firms. Jeffries was a name that had come up repeatedly, but its connections to the Monroe family had put him off approaching them.

“Yes.” Her sigh made him regret the conversation’s direction. “For now.”

“Sounds like you deserve better.” Much safer for him to steer them back onto the topic of what she wanted.

“You’re right.” There was conviction in her voice as she turned to him. “I do.”

“I can help you there.” Shifting into a higher gear, he flashed her a smile.

“So I see, but...” Her voice trailed away.

“What?” he demanded, momentarily taking his gaze from the road to meet hers.

“Nothing.” Her brow creased. “I just mean that this is only a one-time thing. None of my problems need concern you.”

She was right, but for some reason he didn’t like the way it sounded when she said it.

“You seem like a decent person, Moira.” He could hardly believe what he was saying. Draco was usually the last person to throw praise around, and yet something about her forlorn expression tugged at what remained of his heart. Yes, he lusted after her. She was beautiful and had piqued his curiosity, but it wasn’t only about sex. Draco had established his ability to get great sex over the years. He didn’t need Moira. Yet gazing out at the road ahead he realized something for the first time.

He might not ‘need’ her, but he wanted her.

He wanted to see her smile more, and longed to be the man who could give her the life she merited.

Don’t be ridiculous. Pulling in a breath, he allowed the unnerving thought to wash over him. I don’t even know her. She’s no one to me.

Though even as the glib remarks echoed through his mind he knew they were untrue. Moira was someone. She was the first woman he’d ever asked back to his place sober, and was definitely the most intelligent one. Whatever their encounter turned out to be, it was already different from the norm.

“I’m sure you warrant everything you want.”

“Maybe.” A small smile stretched across her lips. “Thank you for saying so, at any rate. I‘ll admit; it is nice to see the city from the inside of your car. It sure beats the bus!”

“You take the bus?” He couldn’t suppress his snigger.

“Sometimes,” she admitted. “There’s no free parking at work and fuel prices have rocketed.”

“You’ll have to call me up.” He glimpsed in her direction to make sure she wasn’t offended by his laughter. For some reason, the way she felt actually mattered to him, and Draco couldn’t recall thinking that before. “I’ll give you a ride.”

“If only.” Her brow rose as her gaze speared him. “I could get used to this. Can you do another circuit before we reach your place?”

“’Fraid not.” His laughter deepened. “My place is just up ahead. Sure you want to go through with this?”

“What?” Leaning closer, her hand reached for his knee and slid along his thigh. “Give legal advice to this handsome guy I met before he takes me to bed?”

“Who said anything about a bed?” His tone was wry as he peered at her. “I’m going to fuck you all over my furniture. We won’t even get to the bedroom.”

“Draco.”

He just caught sight of the heat spreading across her features before turning back to the road. Signaling, he pulled onto his private estate. “What?” he demanded. “You don’t like the sound of that?”

“I’ve never met anyone who talks about sex the way you do.” Her smile was coy as he slowed the car, though he noticed how her hand never moved from near his groin. Had she inched a little closer she’d have discovered the effect she had on him for herself. “That’s all.”

“I’ve never had a problem talking about sex.” Or enjoying it.

“I see that.” She shook her head. “I guess I just don’t have as much experience as you.”

“That’s not a problem.” Covering her hand with his palm, he brought the car to a halt and wound down the window to greet the guys at the security hut. She tried to tug her hand free as she attempted to pull her skirt lower at her thighs, but Draco held her firm. “Good afternoon, Oscar.”
