“Why did you do that?” I gasped in shock.
“You wanted it gone.”
“You said you couldn’t read my thoughts.”
“True. But I have a feeling you want to come closer.” Hooking an arm around my waist, he drew me onto his lap.
I pressed both hands against his chest.
“Nope. I really don’t.”
He darted his tongue out, licking that tempting honey drop off his bottom lip. “Then why are you feeling happier here in my arms than you were over there?”
“Happier?” I squinted at him skeptically.
He nodded confidently.
“More excited. Exhilarated even. Anticipation is buzzing through you so strong, I feel its vibration with all my senses.” He leaned so close over me, I could smell the honey on his breath. “Kiss me, Dawn. Kiss me like you did yesterday. I’ve been dreaming about that kiss ever since.”
His lips hovered a hairbreadth away from mine, but he wouldn’t close the distance.
“Why don’t you kiss me yourself?” I challenged.
“Because it feels better when you do it. There is no bitterness or apprehension in your emotions when you know you have control.”
Oh, that was so true. I hadn’t even realized it. But Rha sensed it. He gave control to me, and I accepted it. Cupping his face with my hands, I gently brushed my lips over his. He parted them eagerly, taking everything I gave him.
He tasted of honey and apricots—the best dessert after the meal we’d just so thoroughly enjoyed together.
I rose on my knees, sinking my fingers into his long, silky hair. Somehow, our kiss grew deeper, and I didn’t know whether it was my fault or his. He wrapped his arms around me tightly. His tendrils flexed, bringing me even closer to him. He slid a hand up my back. Pleasure rippled over my skin in the wake of his touch.
“You like it,” he groaned against my mouth. “You like my hands on you.”
It wasn’t a question. He knew. He felt it all. And he kept exploring. His fingers pressed between my shoulder blades, dove into the hair on the back of my head, then slightly tugged at the roots, learning my response to each action.
“Here,” I croaked, grabbing his hand and moving it to my breast. “I want you here.”
His palm pressed against my hardened nipple through the fabric of my dress. Desire zapped through me. Rha hissed in pleasure, squeezing my breast hard. I whimpered in pain, and he immediately let go, leaning away from me.
“Too much?”
“A little.” I smiled at the terror on his face. “We humans are delicate creatures. Shadow fae are so much stronger than us. And well, you just have big hands.” I took his hand in mine. It was big but elegant, with long, deft fingers. “Maybe you should try again?” I shrugged my dress off my shoulder. The soft fabric slid down my skin easily. “Like this.” I trailed the tips of his fingers along my collarbone.
My skin tingled from his touch. Hooking a finger under my bra strap, he tugged it off my shoulder and down my arm, past the tendril connected to my body.
The bra top slid down, freeing my breast. I sucked in a breath at the brush of cool air against my skin. A shiver of pleasure ran between my shoulder blades.
Rha paused his gaze on my pebbled nipple, then glanced up at my face.
“I’m not even touching you right now.”
“I know. But the way you’re looking at me…” I exhaled a soft moan.
“Is that all it takes? Just a look?” he marveled.
The right look. From the right man. At the right time. Yes, that was all it took for me to shiver in anticipation.
I leaned into his touch and kissed him again. He cradled my breast gently this time, massaging it softly. His thumb brushed by my nipple, and I whimpered at another zap of desire.
