Ashley continued her line of questioning. “I guess when Stan Stevens came along, Sarah thought she found her Prince Charming.”

“Sarah would have married the devil to get out of that house.”

“Did she?” Ashley asked. If she could get Josh to say on camera that he suspected Stan, that could generate enough interest to make sure it got investigated.

Josh smirked. “He put her through med school. Wrote me a recommendation for the army.”

That wasn’t a no.

“Was she happy?”

“She never told me she wasn’t.”

That wasn’t a yes.

“When was the last time you saw your sister alive?”

Again, that flicker of reaction. His eyes went far away as if he was picturing it. “A few weeks before her death. She was tired. Her back hurt. She worked full-time throughout her pregnancy because she wanted to be there for her patients. She wanted to be there for the…” His voice broke. “Babies.”

His nostrils flared as he forced deep breaths through them.

She felt his pain as if he had punched her in the gut. Ashley had her own pain that she refused to let out right now. Not on camera and not in front of this man.

Ashley faced the camera again to give them both some time. She briefly recapped the accident, leaving some space to replay the 911 call that Stan had made. Josh sipped some water and leaned back into his chair.

“It’s been two years and there hasn’t been any movement on the case. That must be frustrating,” Ashley said, turning back to him.

Josh nodded again.

“What do you know about the Poconos Hunting Club?” she asked.

“Nothing, except that’s where Stan was supposedly staying when Sarah was murdered.”

“Supposedly?” Got you.

“That was his alibi.”

“Do you believe him?”

He blinked at her, fighting himself. “Ten men corroborated his story.”

“Who do you think killed your sister?”

“A madman.”

Not what she wanted him to say, but she could make that work. “Do you think he’ll kill again?”

“Most definitely. If he hasn’t already.”

Glee filled her as he gave her an opening. “There have been several murders that resemble your sister’s up and down the East Coast. The police are investigating and there’s a possibility that new information could arise that will link them to your sister’s killer.”

“I’ll believe that when I see it,” he said.

“Have you been in contact with your brother-in-law?”

“No.”

“Why?”
