Josh scowled and brooded while Ashley waited thirty seconds until the cameraman and producer gave her the high sign that they were done. She took off her microphone and tossed it on the table. “What the hell was that about?”
“You got your story.” He took off his microphone. “Now let’s go back to your office and let me see the files on those other murders.”
Ashley thought for a moment he was going to say, “Let’s go back to your office and fuck,” and then she’d throw her water into his face. But he seemed to have forgotten that they were friends, or at least friendly. “Why do you want them?”
“Because I have a right to see them. It’s the only reason I came here.”
Well, that was a slap in the face. “All you had to do was ask and I would have given them to you. Saved you the trip.”
“I figured it was about time I told my side of the story.”
“Is that why you were being such a jerk on camera?”
“It’s who I am, baby.”
She rolled her eyes and led him into her office. At least he was honest about it and at least she saw that side of him before she woke up next to it. “Have a seat.” Opening up her laptop, she turned it toward him. “Here’s what I got. I can email it to you if you want. I’ll be right back.” She grabbed her purse.
“Where are you going?”
“To put my underwear back on,” she said, and walked out of the office. She wasn’t sure if she was disappointed or relieved that he didn’t try to stop her.
