Chapter 14
Sentinel was in the boardroom with the rest of the SOBs. Ryder was in a foul mood and he really didn’t want to deal with her shit. There were still two prostitutes who had helped keep Beverly prisoner. They also knew how many men had raped Beverly and were still walking free. He wanted to have a word with them. Not to mention it was almost sixteen hours later and there were no news reports yet about the dead bodies at the hunting club. It was like waiting for the other shoe to drop.
“What did you do with the pistol?”
“Tossed it into Lake Ronkonkoma. This isn’t my first rodeo, Ryder.”
She paced the small room. “Did you also toss in the boots you were wearing?”
“No, these are my best pair.”
“Those.” She pointed, her eyes wide. “What if you left footprints?”
“I didn’t.”
“It was two o’clock in the morning. How do you know?”
“We’re fine.”
“Are you sure she didn’t wake up?”
It took a minute for Sentinel to follow Ryder’s question. The hookers in the cabin had been awake, as were the two with Reynolds when he’d located the owner’s suite. Then he realized she was talking about his alibi.
“Positive. As far as Ashley knows, I was in bed with her the whole time.”
“You got a rough life,” Warden said. “You know that?”
“Tough job, but someone’s got to do it.” Sentinel shrugged. “So did you get the sniper?”
“He’s been taken care of.”
“So has the other asshole,” Ryder said.
“What about your alibis?” Sentinel figured if she was going to bust his balls, he’d bust hers.
“I was here all night with Naomi,” Warden said.
“Were you?” Sentinel narrowed his eyes. They didn’t know Naomi well enough to trust her to be their alibis.
“More or less. I might have spent some quality time in Evil’s apartment with a few of the ladies, which is why Naomi might not have seen me for a few hours.”
Sentinel rolled his eyes. That was almost worse. The chicks in the VIP lounge gossiped like it was their job. “Which ones were you with?”
“Don’t remember.” Warden shrugged.
“You better if you have to provide an alibi.”
“No one’s going to look that closely at me,” he said. “Besides, Evil and Lucy saw me.”
Evil rolled his eyes. “I wouldn’t rely on Lucy being an expert witness. If she’s asked, she’ll say you went into the spare bedroom alone. Then she’ll say she didn’t know if anyone joined you, or the time you left, because she and I were otherwise occupied.”
In other words, Warden told Naomi he was going to screw around but used that time to slip out of Evil’s apartment and complete his mission.
“It’ll hold,” Warden said.
“Is Naomi still speaking to you?” Sentinel asked.
“Yeah, why wouldn’t she?”
