Page 93 of Twin Warriors
Moving as fast as she could, Amy raced up the stairs, making sure the others were keeping up. She ran out onto the top courtyard, only to come to a dead stop when she ran right into the metal arms of the cyborg.
He grabbed her throat in a bruising hold as he spun his big body around to face the large black shapes that fell from the sky. More Korok soldiers came pouring out from the doors around the space, surrounding the women and forcing them down to their knees.
The cyborg pulled Amy to his chest, holding her pinning to him with one arm around her waist, and his other hand still gripping her throat.
The four huge shapes rose from the crouch position, and Amy realized who they were. She would know the black scale like armor of the symbiotes anywhere.
The huge black wings folded back, before one of them stepped forward.
She instantly knew which ones were Cane and Cole. She could feel the rage and fear pouring off them as they stared at her.
When Iron’s mask moved off his face, she moved her gaze to him.
“Shadow?” Iron asked, a deep frown on his brow.
“Hello, old friend.” The cyborg named Shadow holding Amy said.
“You should be dead,” Iron snarled back, his eyes taking on a deep, dark glow.
The hand around her neck tightened, making Amy claw at his arm.
“Yes. All thanks to you. But the Gods had other plans for me.”
“Release the female. This is between you and I.”
Shadow let out a sickening laugh filled with madness.
“This little one is the twin's mate. How can I resist the opportunity to get rid of the three people I hold responsible for all the pain I suffered, when it would be so easy to snap her neck right now?”
Cane and Cole stepped forward but were stopped by Iron’s raised hand.
Ice moved behind her mate, her body shimmering with the suit that covered her.
“The twins? What do they have to do with this?”
“They were the ones sent after me. You may have given the command for me to be stripped of my position in the military, but they were sent to hunt me down. They should have done a better job of making sure I was dead.”
Iron’s eyes darted down to her, before he looked up at Shadow again.
“There is no way out of this. Let them go and surrender. All I can offer you is a quick and painless death.”
Amy felt a cool, delicate brush on her arms, before she looked up to see Cane and Cole’s suit getting thinner. It was faint and would go unnoticed unless someone was familiar with how the symbiotes worked, but the moment they touched her skin, she felt the electric surge of energy and strength flow through her body. It stayed invisible as it slowly moved over her body, covering her in a protective layer.
When Cane and Cole’s faces revealed from under the masks, Amy hissed in a breath at the look of death in their eyes. Both men stood still, yet she felt the rage vibrating in the air as they stared at the male holding her.
A warm, comforting pulse ran up Amy’s arm, telling her that Kisma and Maku were with her, and that they were keeping the twins safe from getting lost in the madness.
“Tell me, Commander,” Shadow said, sneering the last word, “How does it feel to lose your mate? How does it feel to know that the only one you will ever love is gone?”
Iron grinned, “My Ice is not that easy to kill.” He said, gesturing to the last black suit.
Ice’s face came into view as her suit moved off her head. She had the same deadly look in her eyes, even as she smiled coldly at Shadow.
“No. How can that be possible? I saw the building come down on top of her.”
“You never learn, Shadow,” Cane said, taking a slow step forward, “you always underestimate your opponent. You did when we were training. You did so when we were in battle, and you did the same when you betrayed the military. Thousands of warriors were killed in the ambush you helped set up. Innocent lives of people who trusted you. For that, I will never forgive you. But for laying a hand on our mate… For that we will tear you apart.”
With that, Cane, Cole, Ice and Iron both shot their arms out, the black suit flowing off their bodies in a liquid mass and shot through the air at such a speed, Amy barely saw it before it hit her chest, and covered her in thick scaly armor.
