“You’re kidding, right? Today was… the perfect day. I’m not exaggerating. I had a great time… although—”

“Although?”

“I am sore from having the best sex ever and very, very tired.”

I swing her around, picking her up, savoring the way she feels, the little sound of surprise she makes, the smile on her face.

“I’ll just have to carry you then.”

“Is that right?”

“That’s right. Can’t have you wearing yourself out. In fact, we’ll have to work on your stamina.”

“Oh?” She raises an eyebrow at me, smiling wide.

“Yep. Only way to get stronger and faster is practice, you know.” I nod at my own advice, and her chest shakes with laughter. “We’ll work on it.”

“Hmmm, I think I can handle that.” She stretches up towards me and I meet her halfway, kissing her deeply and unlocking my truck.

I don’t want to take her to her apartment.

I want her to come home with me.

CHAPTER 35

KELSEY

Despite the champagne bubble feeling in my chest, everything at work is normal as usual. My cube is still small and smells like the previous occupant ate too much tuna for lunch. My computer is still slow, my email inbox self-filling.

But I feel different.

None of those things bother me like they usually do.

I feel… really happy.

And I know it’s because of Daniel.

I sigh dreamily, outlining a few ideas to pitch at the mid-week meeting in addition to an update for my boss on the AFL cheerleader investigation piece that’s been my focus for the past month.

No matter what, though, no matter how compelling the pitch idea… my thoughts keep wandering back to a certain salt-and-pepper-haired quarterback. My boyfriend.

Giddy.

That’s the word for how I feel.

“Hey.” Cameron’s voice startles me out of my reverie, and I spin around in my chair.

“Good morning,” I say, trying to sound normal. Trying not to sound like I’m about to burst with happiness.

“You skipped work to hang out with him yesterday, didn’t you?” Cameron doesn’t miss a beat.

“I took a sick day.”

“Good for you. Fuck the man,” Cameron hops up on my desk, crossing her legs and lacing her fingers over a knee. “How was it?”

My nose scrunches up and I bite my lower lip. “Really good.”

“Yessssss,” she says. “That’s mah giiiiiirl.”
