Page 67 of Finally Home
The little brat winks and pulls my hips forward so the tip of my cock brushes her wet heat. “I know.”
Slowly sheathing myself inside of her, I curse. It doesn’t matter how many times we do this; every time feels like the first time all over again.
Small fingers run through my hair and tug, making me speed up my thrusts. “Oh, fuck!” Wren cries out. I pull out, and she whines, but I slap her ass again and turn her over so she’s on her knees. I take a second to admire the handprints from her punishment before plunging back in and angling my hips so the tip of my cock drags along her sweet spot with every pump.
Her cries echo around the room as she clamps down on me, and the noises send fire licking down my spine. With my tattooed hand wrapped around her throat, I haul her upright. Thrusting faster, I bring one hand down to circle her clit, and she’s so wet my finger nearly slips off.
“You gonna be a good girl come for me, baby?”
A harsh cry escapes her as she nods. “Don’t stop!”
“I couldn’t if I tried, Starling, but I need you to get there. Come for me now,” I growl. I’m so close to an orgasm, but I need her to get there first, so I drop my hand from her throat and pinch her nipple while still rubbing her clit. She screams out her release, dragging me with her into ecstasy. I thrust one, two, three more times and empty myself as far inside her as I can with a hoarse shout.
Wren collapses beneath me as I sit back on my heels to catch my breath, and I can barely see the wide smile that bunches her flushed cheeks. I tilt her face to the side and kiss her swollen lips, resting my forehead against her cheek. That sweet apple and honey scent I know and love wraps around me. “Let me grab a washcloth and clean us up.”
Wren is almost asleep by the time I get back from the bathroom. She startles a bit when I swipe the warm cloth between her legs. Tossing it into the laundry, I slide us under the covers and wrap my girl in my arms, our foreheads pressed together on one pillow.
I think she’s asleep until her murmured voice breaks the silence around us. “I know we’ve been focused on me pretty much the entire last few months, and I’m so grateful you’ve given me the space to grieve and grow and heal. But how are you feeling after everything that’s happened?”
Sighing, I kiss the top of her head as love for this woman washes over me in a wave. “Like I’m finally home.”
EPILOGUE
Rhodes
Six Months Later
“So when are you gonna marry that sweet girl of yours, boy? It’s been a decade, quit draggin’ your damned feet.” Walter’s gruff voice is the first thing I hear when I let Finn out of the SUV to explore Mr. Hendrick’s farm.
Snickering, I level him with an amused look. “As soon as I find the perfect ring. I already have it planned out. She only goes to therapy once a month now, and all the dust has settled from earlier this year. I think it’s about time I locked her down for good.”
He nods but stays silent while we watch Finn chase ducks down by the pond. Wren and I try to bring Finn out to see Walter and the farm at least once a month, but she had a huge meeting today with the owner of the Raptors, so I decided to come alone.
“You could always knock her up,” he murmurs, making me choke on my own laughter.
“Walt!”
He chuckles with a shrug. “Didn’t work for me, obviously. But I sure did have fun tryin’,” the old man says with a smirk.
I snort and shake my head. “Wren doesn’t want biological kids. And honestly, I don’t think I do either,” I say quietly. I’m sure he won’t judge us, but knowing he and Elizabeth couldn’t have kids of their own might be a sore spot when he hears that news. But apparently, I underestimated him because he agrees with me.
“Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that. Y’all just enjoy your time together while you can. Lord knows we don’t get enough of it.” His eyes gloss over for a minute, but he quickly shakes it off with a smile. “Here, this is for you.”
He hands me a small blue box and motions for me to open it. My lips part in shock when I do. Nestled inside is a stunning ring that screams Wren. “It’s a two-point-five carat emerald cut center stone with a tapered baguette stone on either side. This was the ring I gave to my Lizzie nearly forty years ago,” Walter says quietly. “Spent damn near every penny I had on it just praying she’d say yes. Little did I know she’d kick me to the couch for a week for spendin’ so much money on a ring.”
I laugh but my heart races so fast I’m worried I might actually have a heart attack. He grabs my shoulders with weathered hands, bringing my attention back to him. “Lizzie and I didn’t have any kids, Rhodes. You’ve always humored me with visits, especially since she passed on, but the last eight months of seeing y’all and the family all the time has made me feel less lonely. And that’s priceless to me.”
His voice shakes the more he talks about Lizzie, but he charges on. “Take her ring and give it a new love to represent. Wren reminds me so much of my wife. I can’t think of another person that deserves it more.”
I carefully close the ring box and tuck it into my pocket. “I don’t know that I’ll ever be able to thank you enough for this, Walt. Wren adores you and I know this will mean so much more to her than anything I could buy.”
He pats me on the back. “Just promise me you’ll cherish every day you get to spend with her.”
Taking a deep breath, I pull him in for a hard hug. “You have my word.”
Wren
“Are we there yet?” I whine.
