“Shit,” I move forward, but the worker orders me behind the line.

As she comes into view, she’s still screaming, but not in fear. She’s having the time of her life. I can’t help laughing. Adrestia cheers as she hits the brake. Then squeals as it bounces back off, before coming to a halt. Once she is detached, she walks straight to me, her arms in the air.

“That was awesome!” She throws herself at me. I stagger back but catch her. “Wasn’t it?”

“Yeah,” I admit. “It kinda was.”

“Wanna go again?”

“No,” I say so fast she laughs. It was fun once. I have no desire to do it again. “Do you?”

“I would. But there is a beer van near the entrance calling our names. And I think,” she gives me a knowing grin. “You need a drink.”

“Okay, good,” I say in relief and usher her to the stairs. A beer sounds great. I lean closer to her as we walk away and are out of earshot of the staff. “You promised me something before I jumped.”

“Did I? I thought I asked if it would helpif I promised. I don’t recall promising.”

“You wanna get out of this on a technicality?”

Adrestia looks over her shoulder as she walks away. I’m not expecting her to follow through on it, but I like this fun, flirty side of her. I let out a laugh as I follow. Hell if I know what is going on with us, but I’m sure as shit having fun.

The beer van is a food truck, open at the side, with a fully stocked bar. There are plenty of people mingling around. It seems this is a popular pastime. Adrestia argues with me about paying. I hold up my hands and let her. She orders a small cider and a bottle of beer, then follows me to a picnic table.

“So come on, spill. What is with all this stuff? Zip wires, kissing strangers. And posing at an art class, in the nude,” I add, my brow pinching.

It hadn’t bothered me before, not in the sense that I wanted to rip out people’s eyeballs. Now we’ve been together, I’m pissed at the thought. All those people not only saw her, but drew her. And still have the pictures. I keep that to myself. She doesn’t need to know I’m jealous.

Adrestia picks at the label on her bottle. When she looks up, her expression is thoughtful. “Like I already said before. Everyone says I’m boring. All I do is teach and hang out with Apollo.”

“That can’t be true. It has not bored me once when I’ve been with you,” I wink.

Her eyes go misty as she glances away. For a moment, it’s like she is about to say something more, but her expression changes.

“So I came up with a list of fun things. To prove I am capable of not being a bore. Ariella butted in. She’d have me tightrope walking between skyscrapers if she could. One of her almost doable suggestions was a backflip,” she chuckles. “I gave it my best shot. When I nearly broke my neck, I told her I’d keep trying, but, nope.”

“I don’t blame you. That is a skill you have to train for years to do.”

“Yeah. I hate failure, though. We compromised with a crab walk.”

I bust up laughing. “You’ll have to show me,” I waggle my brows. Not adding, preferably naked. I don’t think she misses the insinuation. “What is with Apollo giving you money?”

“Oh. That.” She rubs her lips together, eyeing me.

“Was he really paying you?” I ask suspiciously.

“I didn’t know you. Apollo just said that, so we didn’t look like weirdos.”

I run my hand across my chin. “Nah, you did that without the bet story. What else is on the list? Anything more adventurous?”

“A few things. Some of them are random acts of kindness. Like buy groceries for someone. Which I did. The tattoo, obviously. Actually, there is one you could help me with,” she says.

“Yeah?”

“Crowd surfing at a rock concert.”

I give her a stern look. “Nope. Not happening. You can get hurt. I’ve seen people break bones doing that shit. One guy fell on his head.”

“It’s on the list.”
