She wasn’t quite sure how to broach the subject. Then again, there wasn’t time to prevaricate, so she might as well just go with the direct approach.

“It is simple, really,” she said with a smile. “We just need to have sex.”

Chapter Six

Zack felt as if his brain had short-circuited.

At her announcement, all of the blood in his body had drained straight down to his cock, making him harder than he’d ever been. He just wasn’t sure how having sex could get them the answers they needed, but he was ready and willing to give it a go.

From his experience as a soldier, he knew he should be more cautious. He barely knew anything about her besides her name and that she had superpowers that proved she was formidable. He should probably have dozens of questions and concerns, but really, he just didn’t give a fuck about any of that.

He wanted her.

Fucking hell, he wanted her more than he’d ever wanted anything in his entire life.

Reading his silence wrong, she said, “If you are not willing—”

“Oh, I’m totally willing,” he rushed to explain. “But there are a few things we need to talk about before we get to that.”

She cocked her head to the side. “Can we not talk after?”

That made him choke out a cough. “Umm, yeah, I guess we can. But there is something I need to warn you about first so you won’t be alarmed.”

“That sounds rather ominous.”

“It’s not. I just…I was injured pretty badly during a mission last year, and I ended up losing my leg and part of my skull.” He reached up to touch the hat he was still wearing. “I haven’t been with anyone since it happened so—”

She frowned and held up a hand to stop him. “I do not like hearing about that part of your past. In fact, it makes me feel downright murderous thinking about you with someone else.”

Instead of keeping it light by making fun of her jealousy, he soberly nodded. He liked the possession in her voice and the hint of darkness. It filled him with satisfaction thinking that she wanted him as much as he wanted her, but he didn’t want her to misinterpret what he meant.

“Understood. I don’t want to get pissed thinking about your previous—”

“There are none,” she stated abruptly, interrupting him.

“I—wait, what?”

“There is no one else. I may have blank spots in my memory, but of that, I am certain.”

“Say that again,” he demanded, needing to hear the words once more.

“There is no one else,” she repeated softly as she reached out and cupped his cheek. “Only you. I have been waiting for you.”

Zack should have felt like running for cover. Instead, her words filled him with pride and pleasure. Inextricably drawn to her in a way he had never felt before, he gave into his desire and reached out to her. Grabbing her around the waist, he shifted her onto his lap so she was straddling him.

Thunder rumbled and lightning flashed outside, illuminating her beautiful face for his adoring gaze. She really was exquisite. Sheer perfection in female form. He felt a little insecure about his own imperfections and had to fight to keep himself still as she reached up and slowly removed his hat.

He watched as her glowing gaze focused on the metal plate on the side of his head. She touched it gently, then he felt her fingers sliding into his hair. He ran his own hands down her back and drew her closer, thrilled when she didn’t resist. He wanted to claim her lips with his, but he stopped when she was a breath away. He needed her to take that last step and prove that she was sure this was what she wanted.

That he was what she wanted.

Because once she did, there would be no stopping or holding back.

She would belong to him.

As if hearing his unspoken challenge, she leaned in and pressed her lips to his without hesitation, sealing their fate. The kiss was electric, and he felt the shock of it shoot straight through his system. Letting out a low moan, he took the kiss deeper, then swiped his tongue across her lush lips to steal a taste of her.

It wasn’t enough.
