“Have you decided when you’re heading back to New York?” Alex asked, walking down the stairs.
“Actually, I’m not. I hired a moving company to pack up my apartment and move my things here. A friend is going to my place to oversee everything.”
“Sounds like a plan.” He smiled. “To welcome you to your new home, I’m having a barbecue later. I hope you’ll join me since it’s in your honor.”
“And who all will be at this barbecue?” I asked, smiling.
“Just me and you, of course, if you come. Mara is off, and Lucy is spending the night at her friend’s house.”
“I’d love to join you. Can I bring anything?”
“Just your beautiful self.” He winked. “I’ll let you get settled.”
“At least let me help with dinner.”
“Okay. Then I’ll see you at five o’clock.” He held up the keys to the guesthouse.
Holding out my hand, he dropped them into my palm.
“I’ll see you at five.” I smiled.
After he left, I went upstairs and unpacked my suitcases.
CHAPTER 16
Hannah
I walked into Annie’s shop and inhaled the deliciousness infiltrating the air.
“Hannah.” Annie smiled.
“Annie, why are you working on a Saturday?”
“I’m not really working. I just came in real quick to drop off a few things. Is there anything I can get you?”
“Alex is having a barbecue tonight, and I wanted to bring a dessert.”
“Mr. Harbor is having a barbecue and didn’t invite me?” Her brow arched.
I laughed. “It’s a barbecue for him and me only.”
“Ah.” A grin crossed her lips. “In that case, he’s forgiven. Peaches are his favorite, and I happen to know that he loves my peach pie.” She pulled one from the case. “At least he did when we were teenagers.”
“Are you sure?” I asked.
“Trust me.”
“Okay. I’ll take a peach pie.”
She boxed it up while I pulled out some cash.
“Have fun on your date.” She smirked, handing me the pie.
“It’s not a date. It’s a barbecue. Thank you. I shall.” I smiled.
“It’s a date, Hannah!” she shouted as I left the shop.
When I returned to the house, I noticed Alex’s car wasn’t in the driveway. Climbing out, I walked the path to the guesthouse, set the pie on the kitchen counter, and went upstairs to take a quick shower and freshen up before seeing Alex. My belly fluttered at the thought. I was incredibly attracted to him and didn’t want to be. But between his blue eyes and infinite gaze and the warmth of his welcoming and alluring smile, it couldn’t be helped.
