“Not at all.”

“I’m happy to hear that.” He swooped down, picked me up, and carried me upstairs.

He set me on the floor and untied my robe, revealing my naked body underneath. Our lips met with passion as I lay on the bed. Quickly stripping off his clothes, he spread my legs and ran his tongue up my inner thigh, not stopping until he reached my slick opening—the part of me that had been craving him again.

Moans escaped my lips as my hands tangled through his hair while his mouth explored me, bringing me to an out-of-this-world orgasm. Making his way up to my lips, he thrust inside, burying himself deep inside me. Gasps of pleasure escaped our mouths as he rapidly pounded in and out of me. A second orgasm hit, causing him to explode.

“Ah. Ah,” he moaned, dropping his body on mine.

I lay there, the warmth of his breath tickling my neck. He pulled out and rolled onto his back.

“I couldn’t leave in the morning without a proper goodbye.” He smiled.

“I’m happy you dropped by.” I ran my finger down his chest.

He climbed out of bed and pulled on his pants. “I better get back in case Lucy wakes up.”

I wanted to tell him what she said today but figured I shouldn’t. I slipped into my robe and walked him to the front door.

“I hope the engagement party goes well.” His hand softly stroked my cheek. “I’ll see you when I get back.”

“Have a safe trip.”

His lips pressed against mine. “I will.” He opened the door and left.

I placed my hand on my belly and leaned against the door, letting out a breath. I was quickly falling for this man, and it already hurt like hell.

CHAPTER 19

Hannah

“Have you heard from Alex?” Adalyn asked as I sat at the island, sipping a glass of wine.

“No. It’s been three days and nothing. Not a phone call, text, nothing. It’s crickets.”

“I’m sure he’s busy with everything he has to do in Chicago.”

“Maybe. I don’t know, and I don’t really care. I’m too busy to deal with man drama. Besides, his daughter hates me.”

“Oh, come on, Hannah. No, she doesn’t.”

“Yes, she does. I put on my swimsuit to go for a swim. Lucy was in the pool, so I asked if I could join her. She told me no, and I could wait until she got out. Then she told me that just because I’m renting the guesthouse doesn’t mean everything on the property is available to me. Do you believe that?”

“Have you talked to Alex about it?”

“No, and I won’t. He doesn’t need that kind of stress. I’m really thinking I made a huge mistake moving in there.”

“You sound irritated that he hasn’t been in contact since he left.”

“No, I’m—maybe a little. Ugh, Addy.” I lay my forehead down on the granite. “I really like him. I don’t want to like him because that’s not why I moved here. I moved here to start fresh, not fall in love with a guy.”

“Love? You’re in love with him?”

“Yeah.” I lifted my head and stared at her. “And the worst part is that this feeling inside me is different. I thought I was in love with Matthew, but I wasn’t. So, yeah. I am a little mad that Alex hasn’t bothered to reach out since he left. Even just a quick text would be nice.”

“Well, I think—” Suddenly, Adalyn placed her hand over her mouth.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.
