Lucy and I sat on the blanket by the shoreline and ate pizza.

“Did the Motrin help your cramps?” I asked.

“Yeah. Thanks.”

“You’re welcome.”

“Oh, by the way, I don’t have school tomorrow.”

“What? Why?”

“Something about teacher’s records day. I forgot to tell Mara the other day.”

“Okay. I have some things to do, so you’ll have to come with me.”

We picked up the blanket and the pizza box and went inside the house. There was no way I could sleep in the guesthouse and leave her in the main house by herself.

“I suppose you’ll be sleeping in here,” she said.

“Yeah. I can’t leave you alone all night. I’ll sleep on the couch.”

“Why? Just take one of the guestrooms.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah. I don’t think my dad would mind if you slept in his bed. It won’t be his much longer once the primary room is redone.”

“I think I’ll stay in one of the other rooms.”

“Suit yourself. I’m going to take a shower. Maybe we can watch a movie when I’m done.”

“Is there popcorn?” I smiled.

“Yeah. A whole box in the pantry.”

While Lucy was in the shower, Adalyn Facetimed me.

“Hey, you.” I smiled.

“I told Colin about the baby!”

“And?”

“He’s so excited, he can barely stand it. Oh my God, sis. I can’t believe I’m pregnant. Don’t tell anyone. We’re announcing it at the engagement party. I was able to secure a doctor’s appointment tomorrow.”

“You know I won’t say a word. Did you tell Luis?”

“Yeah. We just did. He is so excited. How are things over in tween land?”

“She started her period today for the first time.”

“Oh shit. Really?”

“Yeah. We talked a bit, and as soon as she gets out of the shower, we’re going to watch a movie.”

“Good. See, I told you she doesn’t hate you. It’s all hormones.”

“Maybe.” I smiled.
