Letting the two of them work it out would probably be best. I walked back to the two piles of ash, pondering creativity. In the last few months, I started making my own decisions and finally had my first fantasy about the future. But I hadn’t known where to start when creating a new spell. Damon had done all that. I existed to power him and replicate his work.
But not anymore.
I looked over my notes. A few modification ideas popped into my head. I pulled out the fancy tablet and began typing an email to Abe with a new supplies list.
Beryl chuckled behind me. “Trying new things in an organized pattern. Our bro’s good with words.”
“He’s not our fucking bro,” Ashe growled.
Beryl chuckled again. “Whatever you say, man.”
I wrinkled my nose and pretended I didn’t hear either of them as I reorganized and regrouped. If Damon could do it, I could do it. It was that simple.

I collapsed on the floor in Professor Garnet’s office later that morning. I’d never pushed my body so far. Everything ached. Even my brain tingled.
Next to me, Ashe grunted uncomfortably, also sitting down to catch his breath.
Saffron chuckled from where I knew he stood next to Professor Garnet. “Yoga’s not that hard.”
“But Ashe is,” Professor Garnet purred.
Ashe hit the yoga mat under him. “Fuck off.”
I bit my lower lip and stayed out of it.
The last twenty minutes of holding poses and lengthening muscles I didn’t know I possessed had somehow been the most seductive and least seductive moments of my life. Every time Professor Garnet pressed against me to adjust my position, my magic and body lit with need, but moments later, my muscles would stretch to the point of discomfort.
I now knew what a wet noodle felt like.
Saffron grunted. “There’s nothing wrong with getting a hard-on for another man.”
I raised an eyebrow and looked at Ashe.
“It’s from watching, A, you fucking washroom hog.” Ashe stood. “Fuck, Kitten, I need to clear my head.”
He rushed out the door on wobbly legs. My thoughts centered as the blood in my body started to flow at its normal pace. Professor Garnet brought up the lights and turned off the annoyingly calm music that almost put me in a trance.
“Well done for your first session.” Professor Garnet grinned. “Remember, Saffron, and I have been practicing for years.”
I picked at my yoga mat. “At least I was slightly more flexible than Ashe.”
Saffron snorted. “Ashe is a wall of muscles; I doubt he can touch his hands together in front of his chest. I’m honestly surprised he joined us.”
I stood, straightening my uniform. “Ah, well, I don’t think he’s leaving us alone together any time soon.”
Saffron scowled but didn’t comment.
Flanked by the two mages, I made my way to the library. Professor Garnet and I climbed to the restricted section while Saffron went for breakfast.
The moment we crossed into The Nest, the professor grazed my skirt with his fingertips. He kissed down the side of my neck. I moaned, capturing both his hands and pushing him away from me.
He caught my hands and took a step back, eyeing me.
I wrinkled my nose. “I need to look up some reactions from an experiment this morning.”
Instead of looking disappointed, the professor brightened. “You’ve had a breakthrough. Do tell.”
