She shifts around so she can slip one of her thighs between mine. I thrust onto it, needing the pressure. We both gasp, and her eyes fly open to stare into mine.

“Fuck, Hope. You’re so wet.”

I couldn’t look away from her if I tried. “You make me so wet.”

She leans even harder into me, and I squirm. I need her fingers. I need her tongue. I need her to make me fall apart, and then I need to do the same to her.

Over and over again.

“Becca, please. I need you. I need you so much.”

She closes her eyes again, and her expression shifts into something I can’t read.

“Hope...”

She rolls off me after a second and flops down on her back, dragging a hand down her face.

“You okay?” I ask. I’m still so turned on everything feels spacey, but a flash of worry starts bringing me out of the fog.

“Yeah.” The corner of her mouth lifts, and she flips onto her side to face me. “I’m very okay. I...I’ve just been meaning to ask you something for a while now. I wanted to do it after we won today, right there on the field, but it didn’t seem quite right. I’ve been waiting for us to have a moment on our own all night.”

“Well we’re definitely on our own now.” I make a show of glancing around the room Jane and I are sharing. “Unless Jane is hiding under the other bed. Yo Jane, you here?”

Becca laughs as I cup a hand to my ear.

“Huh, nothing.” I say. “Guess we really are alone.”

“Guess we are.” She’s still laughing, and she takes a deep breath once she’s got herself back under control. “Hope, these past couple weeks have been so amazing. Today was amazing. I’m so proud of every single thing you do. I can tell you have this incredible future ahead of you, and I...I want to be there for it.”

I scooch in closer to her. Our faces are just a couple inches apart on the pillow. Her voice has dropped to a murmur.

“You will be, Becca.”

She chews on her lip for a moment. “I mean I want to be there...officially. I want to be part of each other’s lives. I want...I want you to be my girlfriend, and I want to be yours.”

My heart starts clanging against my ribcage like a butterfly on speed, and maybe it’s not the coolest or most chill response, but I sit straight up in bed and squeal.

“You do?!”

Becca starts laughing, somewhere between shocked and amused. “Of course I do.”

“I—I—I—Wow. I just—I’ve wanted that so much, but I didn’t want to rush you after everything we’ve been through. I just—Wow. Oh my god.”

She sits up beside me. “So...is that a yes?”

I throw my arms around her neck. “Of course it’s a yes. Yes, I want to be your girlfriend. Yes, I want you to be my girlfriend.”

She hugs me back and buries her face in my hair. I squeeze her tight, and we hold each other for a long, long time, letting the weight of the moment sink in. I feel like we’ve been building something for months, and now we’ve finally gotten the chance to step back and take a look at our work.

We’ve made something beautiful.

“We’re girlfriends,” I whisper.

“Yeah, we are,” Becca whispers back, her voice thick. “We’re girlfriends.”

We pull back enough to look at each other. Becca’s eyes are shining, and mine are stinging like I’m about to cry too.

I’ve never had a girlfriend before, and I’ve somehow lucked out and got the one of my actual dreams.
