“I mentioned you still have a contract here with the green team, and we need to get the approval for your transfer first from them.”

I take a deep breath, frustrated that I have to get permission to sign with my dream team but trying to understand that not everything is up to me. I’ve done my part, playing the best I could, and now I need Santi to work his magic.

“Yeah, okay. Do you think Mr. Perez will sign my release? I mean, we won the championship, they might want to keep me,” I ask, a little hesitant. I don’t want Santi to say no.

“Cata, the moment he sees these numbers, there’s no way he’ll refuse. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.”

I can’t help it; I shout and jump in place. “Okay, great. So when can we meet him? I’m assuming you’ve kept him in the loop.”

Santi scoffs. “Of course, I’ve kept him in the loop. I’m a professional.”

“I know. I’m sorry, I’m just so excited,” I say as I squeal again.

Santi chuckles, and we end the call with his promise to set up the meeting with Mr. Perez for sometime this evening or tomorrow at the latest.

I’ll talk to Papi as soon as he’s back from work, but right now, I need my sis.

Not even a second passes before I get a reply.

Took you long enough! Mom and I were on the phone wondering when you were going to TELL ME!!!!

JAJAJA I love you. I was on the phone with Santi, my manager. I’m meeting Mr. Perez tonight or tomorrow and then I’m flying to Buenos Aires!!!!

Holy shit! This is really happening! We’ll be living close by. I can’t take it. I’m so fucking happy, jueputa! (son of a bitch!)

I bark out a laugh as I let myself fall onto my bed. My sister is by far my biggest cheerleader. Just like I am hers, although her husband, Franco, would argue he is. And maybe he is, just like I thought his dark-haired friend could be mine. The man who haunts my dreams, the man I crave. Ugh. Why do I still have to lust over Matías? If only he’d speak to me, sigh.

Sofi texts me again, effectively pulling me out of my thoughts.

Not yet, I haven’t signed anything. I haven’t gotten through tests and whatnot. Plus, besides you and Franco and Dani, who’s really going to care?

I told Sofi everything that happened that night. She and Isabella—Luca’s sister and also my best friend—are the only ones who know.
