“Uh, not to be that girl, but I think you already have,” I laughed, covering my mouth.

He smirked and undid his pants, releasing his length.

My jaw dropped, and I looked away. “Wow.”

“Emily, look at me,” he said.

I did as he’d said, and my heart skittered frantically in my chest, fearful, excited. It was the look in his eyes, like he was the Hunter, and I had wound up in his cross-hairs.

“I’m going to make you mine completely tonight,” he said. “I’m going to make it so that your heart belongs to me and only me.”

I sucked in a breath.

And then he was on me again, pressing his hand against my breast, palming it and kneading it gently, pinching and nipping.

Alex reached between us and placed himself at my entrance. He pressed inside me, and I wrapped my legs around him, clinging to him like he could save me from the animal he’d become.

And he was an animal.

My headboard pounded against the wall as he ravished me, as he kissed my neck and growled against my flesh, and I rose in time with him, meeting him thrust for thrust.

Our mouths found each other in the chaos, and I kissed him, needily, wanting more than just his lips, but his tongue as well.

Sharpness grazed my tongue, followed by a bolt of pain, and I pulled back, crying out in ecstasy, only for him to crash against me and suck my tongue into his mouth. He worked his body against mine, his muscles flexing and trembling, as if he couldn’t hold back, as if he was going to?—

“Emily,” he muttered, grasping a handful of my hair and burying his face in it. “Emily. Emily.”

His final thrusts were as desperate and powerful as the first, but they sent me into yet another climax.

Alex slowed down until he came to a complete stop. He held me in his arms, tucked against his chest.

“I can’t feel your heartbeat,” I murmured sleepily.

“No?” Alex talked into my hair. “But there are other things you can feel, yes?”

“Yes,” I whispered, laughing under my breath. “I enjoyed those feelings.”

“Enjoyed?” He pulled back and met my gaze. “The night is young, Emily, and if I’m the only thing that makes you feel better, it’s my duty to do just that for you.”

“I think I need sleep first.”

“Hmm. It seems so.”

“Don’t you?” I asked.

“Not particularly.” He pulled away from me slowly.

I gasped. “Oh my God, we forgot to use protection.”

“I assure you, there’s no need to panic. I can’t make a woman pregnant,” he said. “And I am one hundred percent clean.”

I exhaled. “Oh. Oh, well, that’s good.” He couldn’t make a woman pregnant? Why did I find that disappointing? I have to get a grip. Alex was gorgeous, he was everything I could possibly want in a guy, but it wasn’t as if we were getting married or in love.

Even as I thought it, it felt like a lie.

Whatever this was between us, it was getting stronger every time we saw each other. It was scary but intoxicating. It was a giant red flag. But I didn’t care. I wanted this badly. I just wished he’d open up to me more.

Alex lay beside me, his arms around me as we dropped off to sleep together.
