“Thanks man. See you later.”

He dips his head and with that I leave.

The weight of the news pulls me under with every step I take. There is nothing worse than betrayal because you never know who to trust.

I’m going to wait until it’s time to strike and keep things under wraps, but I think I still need to do that check in with my godfather.

I want to see him face to face, look him in the eye and acknowledge him as my villain.

It’s ten when I make my way to Parker’s office.

I did my training with Thorne and I was better than yesterday. After that I had an early accounts class.

I don’t know how I kept my cool, but I did.

I needed time to process everything. And cool off. Though my blood is still hot with the ich to kill.

I knock on the door when I reach and Parker calls out for me to come in.

I go inside and find him leafing through a file.

He looks so much like the man I’m used to. I can’t see past the mask he’s wearing of my godfather.

“Hey kid.” He smirks grinning back at me in that good natured manner I once took comfort in.

“Hi.” My voice is hoarse and my tone drier than an empty well.

“Come in. It’s good to see you.”

“I won’t stay long.” I can’t. If I do I’ll lose my shit and kill him. “I’m just checking in to see how you are.”

He smiles and I want to rip his face off. I can actually see myself doing it. I would skin him the way you would with a rabbit and leave the flesh exposed. Then I’d smash his head in and make sure I kept him alive just long enough to feel the torturous pain.

“It’s me who should be checking on you,” he says, yanking me from my dark thoughts. “Are you okay?”

“Yes. Everything is fine with me.”

“How is your girl doing?”

“My girl?” I never told him Isabelle was mine.

He cocks his head and gives me a knowing look. “Kade I’ve never seen you so angry. You made sure Michael was dealt with after the incident. I realized then that Isabelle Kolyav must be your girl.”

I give him a thin smile. “Yes. She’s mine. And we’re good.” It’s a lie but to me it’s not. After this I’m getting my girl back. She’s had time to think and I’ve had time. being without each other makes no sense when she was just as much a victim in this as anyone else.

“That’s good to hear. You seem quite fond of her.”

“I am. She’s a good person.”

He smirks. “Did you have a change of heart after she torched your bike?”

“Something like that.”

“These things happen sometimes. Although I have to say I saw you with someone more of the cheerleader type.”

“I’ve changed.”

“Alright. Each to their own desire.” He sighs and glances around his documents. “I’ve been keeping busy as you can see. Chancellor Potalov had one hell of a lot of work to do.”
