"Gotcha," I said, grinning.

He laughed, picking up his sword. "You've got talent, Elara. Now let's see if you can do it again."

I took a deep breath, readying myself. "Bring it on."

We continued our practice, our movements more synchronized with each round. I felt the magic flowing more freely, guiding my actions. Kael pushed me harder, testing my limits, but I relished the challenge.

"Focus on your breathing," he instructed, stepping back for a moment. "Let the magic flow with each breath."

I nodded, inhaling deeply and letting the energy surge through me. When we resumed, my strikes were more controlled, my defenses stronger. The bond between us seemed to amplify my power, making each move feel more natural.

"You're improving quickly," Kael said, blocking my attack with a swift motion. "Keep listening to the magic."

Our blades danced, the sound of metal against metal filling the training ground. The others around us were absorbed in their own practice, but I could feel their occasional glances, their curiosity about the connection between Kael and me.

Finally, Kael called a halt. "Well done, everyone. Keep practicing. Elara, stay with me for a moment."

The others dispersed to continue their drills, and I stayed by Kael’s side, catching my breath.

"You did well today," he said, his voice warm. "Your magic is growing stronger."

"Thanks to you," I replied, smiling. "I couldn’t do this without you."

He reached out, brushing a strand of hair from my face. "Remember, we’re in this together. Always."

The nights were our time. Under the silvery glow of the moonlight, Kael and I found a secluded spot away from the camp to focus on harnessing my magic. The cool night air carried the scent of pine and earth, wrapping us in a cocoon of serenity.

"Try channeling your power through the earth," Kael suggested, his voice a gentle murmur in the quiet night. "Feel the energy around you."[MN89]

I nodded, closing my eyes to better connect with the ground beneath me. The hum of life in the earth vibrated up through my feet, a steady, ancient rhythm. I inhaled deeply, drawing that energy up, letting it flow through my veins.

"Now, direct it," Kael said, stepping closer. I could feel the warmth of his presence, and it made my magic surge, more potent and controlled.

I extended my hands, and the rocks around us began to lift, swirling in the air as I guided them with my mind. The sensation was exhilarating, the power intoxicating.

"Impressive," Kael murmured, his hand brushing against mine. The contact sent a jolt of energy through me. "You're stronger when I'm near, aren't you?"

I opened my eyes and met his gaze, the connection between us palpable. "It's like our energies resonate," I replied.

He smiled, his eyes reflecting the moonlight. "Then let's see how far we can push this."

We continued to practice, experimenting with different ways to amplify my magic. Kael's presence made everything feel sharper, more focused. We moved together in a dance of power and precision, my magic responding to his guidance.

As the night deepened, we finally paused, breathless and invigorated. The rocks settled back to the ground, and I let out a contented sigh.

After our training sessions, we would sit by the fire, the flames casting soft shadows on Kael's face. The crackling firewood provided a comforting backdrop to our conversations, which ranged from battle strategies to personal dreams.

"Do you ever think about what comes after all this?" I asked one night, the firelight dancing in his eyes.

"Sometimes," Kael admitted, his gaze intense and thoughtful. "But right now, I can only think about protecting you. Us."

His hand lingered on mine, a silent promise that sent a shiver through me. The warmth of his touch was both soothing and electrifying.

"Together, we'll face whatever comes," I said, leaning closer. "I believe in us."

He smiled; a rare, genuine smile that made my heart skip a beat. For a moment, the world outside our little camp faded away, and it was just the two of us, lost in each other's presence.

In those stolen moments of shared laughter and whispered dreams, we found strength in each other.
