“I know. Which is why I don’t think he did it.”

“You’re that sure that this male is really her mate?” Carrik asked.

“I am. And I’m rarely wrong.”

“What do we do, then?”

“I haven’t decided, but I’ll be back in a little while.”

“Where are you going?”

“To pay a visit to a certain Bear shifter and see how he’s faring.”

“Do you know where to find him?” Carrik asked.

“More or less. Shouldn’t take me long to locate him.”

Delilah looked up from her notebook, an uneasy feeling creeping up her spine as she glanced around the kitchen.

“Did I not tell you that if you screwed this up, I’d kick your ass?” Maverik asked.

“I didn’t do anything wrong. It’s just a misunderstanding,” Brandt insisted.

“Okay, first of all, why did you allow yourself to get into a situation that could be misunderstood?! Women worth having, women like ours can be high-strung, emotional beings, and yours definitely is. You don’t take a chance on being misunderstood!”

“I wasn’t thinking it would be misunderstood. I was thinking to head off a problem for Havoc, and it backfired!”

“Am I the only one that feels that?” Delilah asked, still looking around her kitchen. True it was full of family, but what she was feeling didn’t come from a single one of them.

“Feel what?” Valerie asked.

“Just feels… off. Like there’s no space left in here. Feels heavy, like there’s something coming.”

“I’m sure it’s fine. You’ve been more sensitive since you carried Tessa. I’m sure it’s nothing,” Everly said.

“No, I feel it, too,” Daisy said.

Maverik tapped the side of Valerie’s hip to get her to stand. He stood up and took a couple of steps away from the group. “I don’t see you, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if you’re here.”

Delilah stood and looked around her kitchen, just as Maverik had. “Show yourself.”

A faint purple wisp of mist swirled before quickly growing. The image of a woman with long, thick silver hair could be seen within the mists.

Barron got up and stood protectively beside his mother, his instincts tingling with the need to be between her and whatever was happening.

Brandt jumped up and rushed forward. “Tempest!” he exclaimed.

“Hold on, Brandt! That ain’t Tempest,” Maverik said.

As the mists dissipated, the image of the woman solidified, leaving her standing there, looking at each of them. When her gaze came to Maverik she smiled. “Mr. Maverik. How are you?”

Maverik smiled. “I’m good. I’m very good.”

“I can see that.” Lily smiled at Valerie knowingly. “You are much happier than the male I met all those years ago at the tiny store right outside our community.”

“I am. You were right. I found my place and everything that was waiting on me,” Maverik said.
