“I am aware. Besides that’s not exactly what happened. While it’s what Tempest saw, the situation is not as she interpreted it,” Lily said.

“The entire thing is my fault. Though I didn’t do what you think I did, I didn’t tell you the entire truth and that’s why this whole thing happened.”

“Lie by omission!” Destroy shouted accusingly.

“Can you please go away?” Brandt asked.

“Absolutely not!” Destroy insisted. “No more than you would if you were watching over your own people.” Destroy made a dramatic show of thinking about it. “Or perhaps you would. What kind of male are you?”

“He’s an excellent Alpha. Fair and just and he cares for his people. Don’t question his character! Just two days ago, he took in a family and gave them a home. And so they wouldn’t refuse it as charity, he hired the father so he can earn it,” Tempest said. “His integrity is fully intact.”

“Yet, you question his behavior with another female,” Lily said.

A roar sounded overhead and a large shadow covered most of the clearing before the ground shook.

Lily smirked at Destroy. “You let him know her mate was here?”

Destroy just beamed a beautiful smile at Lily.

Brandt didn’t turn around to look. He maintained eye contact with Tempest. “Your father?”

“Yes. And my Grand-Papa.”

“Of course,” Brandt said, nodding slowly. He sighed and turned to face the largest Dragon he’d ever seen in his life, but he gave no indication he was intimidated or uneasy at all. In fact, if he felt either, Carrik got no indication of it. Neither did the angry, blue-grey skinned Gargoyle striding purposefully toward him wielding a scythe.

As Brandt watched the Dragon shifted into his human form and jogged to catch up with the Gargoyle. Brandt didn’t shy away, or cower in any way. Instead, he held himself with pride and confidently walked out to meet them.

“My skiin ew!” the Gargoyle bellowed.

The Dragon said something quickly to the Gargoyle, and the Gargoyle nodded as he picked up his pace.

Brandt stood his ground, and as he watched them get closer and closer, he shook out his arms and kicked off his boots in preparation of shifting if necessary.

When they finally got close enough to speak in normal voices rather than shouting, the Gargoyle spoke to Tempest. “Pest mate?”

Tempest nodded.

“No mo’e!” the Gargoyle said, raising the scythe.

“Papa, stop it!” Lily snapped, stepping off the porch to be closer to Brandt. “That’s enough.”

The Gargoyle stopped, but he held the scythe above his head, staring at Brandt with a constant rumble deep in his throat.

“Stop it! You’re behaving just as badly as Lore did to me and Carrik.” Then Lily shifted her attention to Carrik, “And you should know what it feels like personally. What are you two thinking?”

“That he hurt Tempest. But I did remind him not to actually hurt the boy. Didn’t I, Carnage?” Carrik said.

Carnage grinned at Lily and nodded.

Lily rolled her eyes. “Tempest, introduce your mate to your father and grandfather.”

Tempest looked at Brandt, and while she was still not herself the anger wasn’t simmering just under the surface anymore. “This is my father, Carrik.”

Carrik performed a perfect bow.

“And my grandfather, Carnage.”

Carnage snarled.
