I took two steps and then froze when I heard a pop followed by a gush.

In shock, I looked down to see I was now standing in a puddle on my kitchen floor.

“Uh-oh.”

“Thomas!” Sydney yelled. “I told you that you were nesting.”

“You're going to rub that in now? Really?”

“Thomas!” she yelled again.

“What?” he asked, walking into the room.

He froze and his jaw dropped.

“You might want to call Sam,” I suggested.

“No! It's too soon, Lil.”

“Well what am I supposed to about it now?”

“Why didn't you tell me you were having contractions?”

“Because I'm not.”

“You've been rubbing your lower back a lot since I got here,” Sydney said.

“That's just because it's sore from where I overdid it today.”

“Or you're having some mild back contractions.”

“I never get those. Only ever in the stomach.”

A fresh cramp hit me and I moaned as I rubbed at my lower back.

“That,” she said. “That sure looked like a contraction to me.”

“Well, it wasn't,” I insisted.

“I heard,” Luke said as he joined us in the kitchen. “Sam's on his way and I called Zach to have them pick up the girls.”

“Thanks, Luke,” Thomas said.

“I'm pretty sure I just peed.”

“You did not. I heard your water break and stood here and watched it happen.”

“I don't know what you're talking about. I'm fine and dinner's almost ready.”

I rubbed my back again.

Cora and Zach walked in to find me standing in a pool of fluids cooking dinner.

“Lily dear, what are you doing?” Thomas's mother asked.

“Just finishing up dinner. There's plenty here if you want to stay.”

I dumped the spaghetti noodles into the now boiling water and tossed the garlic bread into the oven.
