“For Bella Connors,” Aiden says to theman.

“What are you doing?” the man asks with afrown.

“None of your concern. Just give me the damninformation.”

The man grabs a tablet off his desk, scrolling for a moment before handing it to Aiden. He glares at theAlpha the entire time.

“This is my brother, Zion. Zion, this isBella,” Aiden says in introduction not looking at either of us.

I stare at my feet, the gaze of the otherAlpha heavy on me. I don’t know if I should say anything or simplykeep my trap shut. I can feel the atmosphere change, gettingheavier, more charged.

“What did you do?” Zion hisses. My gazesnaps to him only to find his gaze locked to the bite mark on myneck. “Have you lost your fucking mind?”

Aiden doesn’t reply, he simply places thetablet on his brother’s desk before taking my hand and leading meout of the building known as The Sanctuary. He leads us to adeep-red car that I know costs more than most people earn in fiveyears, before opening the door and waiting for me to slide into thepassenger seat.

He rounds the front with long strides beforesliding into the driver’s seat. The car purrs to life beneath usand we head north. I know where he is headed, embarrassment oncemore flooding my system. I really, really don’t want this Alpha inmy home or around my mother.

Chapter Six

Aiden

Driving always helps me clear my mind butnot this time. Her scent is permeating the interior of my car, andI can feel the anxiety vibrating off her. It feels like I amdrowning in her scent in the enclosed space and even opening thewindow doesn’t alleviate the feeling.

“Will you relax?” I ask harshly. “Youremotions are only making your scent stronger.”

I know it has been a lot for her to take inbut what’s done is done. She needs to make peace with the situationso we can move forward.

“Where are we going?” Bella asks, an edge toher voice.

“Don’t act obtuse. It doesn’t suit you.”

“You don’t know what suits me, Aiden. Youdon’t know me,” she huffs, folding her arms across her chest. “Whyare we going to my apartment?”

I hold back my retort because she isn’twrong, but we can get to know each other. It’s good to see she hassome backbone, though. Perhaps she isn’t as soft as I thought.

“You need to get your belongings,” I reply.“And I have a medical team meeting us there to assess your motherbefore deciding the best course of treatment.”

She sucks in a loud breath before turningaway to look out the window.

“Why are you doing this?” she askssoftly.

Stopping beside the building she lives in, Ikill the engine and turn toward her. “Look at me.” I wait with asmuch patience as I have until she complies. “None of this is foryou. Don’t ever think I am a knight in shining armor, come torescue you. I’m a greedy man and that greed has taken me far inlife. I wanted you and I took what I wanted. Now that you are boundto me, I have an all-access pass to as much omega pussy as I couldever want.”

She gasps, opening her mouth to saysomething, but I continue speaking.

“And with your mother getting the care sheneeds it will put you in my debt and keep you in line.” I know mywords are harsh but they are true.

I don’t wait for her to say anything as Istep out of the car and walk around the hood to open her door. Thisis my show, she just needs to play her part.

Bella

I am looking at our apartment throughsomeone else’s eyes for the first time. The worn-out carpet, theratty couch, the fading paint, it all makes my stomach hurt. Wehave been doing everything we can to survive but my father diedfive years ago, and my mother got sick shortly after. The diner Iall but live at as a waitress is barely keeping the lights on.

So many nights we have gone to bed hungryonly to keep the heat on through the harsh winter nights.

Anger rolls off Aiden in waves as he looksaround the tiny apartment.
