I wanted to.
“Okay,” I said. “Your apartment it is.”
His chest heaved as he reached for his wallet.
I placed a hand on his arm. “Oh, please.”
“I can’t let you pay.”
I laughed. “This piece is a business expense, but anything after this won’t be.”
He laughed and nodded as I paid. Harrison stood, reaching his arm out to me. “My apartment isn’t far. We can walk.”
My eyes widened as I slipped my arm into his. It had been a while for me. I wondered how long it had been for him. How long ago was his divorce? Maybe I should have asked. “Should I do the interview before or after?”
Harrison froze, and I realized I’d voiced that thought out loud. He glanced at me, clearing his throat. “Before or after what?”
My gaze dropped to his lips as I bit my own. Surely I wasn’t misreading this, was I? What the hell was I doing? I couldn’t let something physical interfere with my job, not again.
As the wheels spun in my head, Harrison turned so we were facing each other, his gaze flickering over my face. That look sent heat spiraling through me. Holy hell.
“Maybe this is a mistake,” I whispered.
Chapter 4
Harrison
Heat flooded my body as I looked at Kat, my gaze dropping to her heaving chest. I was sure mine was doing the same. Fuck. I wanted to touch her all over. My gaze darted back up to her eyes as I got hard. Three months since my divorce and I hadn’t been with anyone since, nor for a while before then. Some of my friends said I should just get out there, but Sue and I had been married a long time. When I told her I was going on a special dig as soon as finals were over, she’d been furious.
That’s when I couldn’t pretend anymore. I needed that piece of my life back. Kat seemed to understand and share my love for the dig. Plus, she was fucking hot. From her beautiful face to her banging curves, I wanted it all. She’d been ready to come home with me, and my joke had fallen flat. I could see second thoughts pouring through her brain. I needed to do something fast if I wanted her not to run away.
Pulling her into the line of my body, I leaned closer, stopping with her lips a whisper away from mine. Oh, shit. Was she seeing anyone?
“Tell me one thing before I answer that,” I said.
Her eyes widened. “What?”
“Are you single?”
“Yes—”
As soon as she confirmed it, I went the rest of the distance, pressing my lips against hers. They were soft and warm and so damn inviting I wanted to lose myself to the sensation. Her arms looped around my neck, and I groaned as her hips pressed against my cock. Kat’s tongue licked my lips, and I opened my mouth, sliding my tongue against hers.
“Woo! Go, Professor!” came a call from my left, and Kat pulled back, breaking the kiss.
“Get to class, Hunter,” I said, not breaking eye contact with Kat. “We’re still too close to the university,” I said to her.
Her face was red, and she burst out laughing. “Oh my god. I forgot you’re a celebrity. We’d better get away from your adoring fans.”
I laughed along with her, pulling her away from the college and toward my apartment building. It was great living downtown, for the most part. Made it easy to get to work, but hard to get away from the students. I should probably find something a bit farther out. We paused in front of my building as I opened the door for her.
After nodding to Alfred at the front desk, I steered Kat toward the elevators. Students couldn’t afford this place, so at least we’d have no more catcalls. We stepped into the elevator to go up to the seventh floor. Hell . . . she smelled like strawberries. I clasped my hands in front of me in an effort to behave. Glancing at Kat, I noticed her watching me. She took a deep breath, and my eyes again dropped to her chest. I wanted to rip off her shirt so I could touch her.
Without further warning, she pushed me against the wall, her lips finding mine as she rolled her hips against my cock. I quickly grew hard. My restraint shattered as she sucked on my tongue. I grabbed her ass and squeezed. It was the perfect handful. I encouraged her to grind harder against me, a groan escaping my lips.
The elevator dinged, and I pulled back, resting my forehead against hers as I panted. “Damn, can we get out of public now?”
She laughed and pulled me out of the elevator. “Let’s do that. Sorry. I couldn’t help myself.”
