This was too much. “I guess we better get it all out of our system.” I trailed my fingers down to his erection. “After Saturday night, it’s over.”

“Sunday morning,” he added quickly.

“Right.”

“Why are we talking about that, though? We have a few more days together. And I’m not even done exploring your body.”

Good. Back on track. I wanted this Hansen. This sex-focused man who gave me the best orgasms I’d ever had. I didn’t want the sweet guy who worried about me and only confused me with his kindness. What was the point in that?

I bit my lip, and lifted on my toes, pulling him down until our lips touched. Water surged between us, through the tight spaces between our bodies. He tasted so good mixed with the fresh water. I opened my mouth, coaxing his tongue to play with mine.

“Are you sure you want to start something now? I’m not exactly a one-pump chump.” His words were a low growl against my mouth. He took my hand and pressed it against his erection.

I laughed. This was the Hansen I knew.

“No, you’re not.” I moved my hand. “So, you’d better get out of here.”

He groaned out his frustration. “You’re probably right.” He kissed my forehead and gazed down at me, those softened eyes coming back.

My heart fluttered. And fluttered. I got dizzy with his stare. This wasn’t good.

I slapped his arm. “Go.”

Another hour later, Hansen and I faced each other, dressed and ready for the third day of the conference.

“You look cute. Like a French librarian.” He ran his finger along the waistband of my cropped black pants.

“I see someone might have a fetish.” I laughed.

“I might.” He waggled his eyebrows. But he became pensive, taking a moment to say something I could see was on his mind. “About last night…are you okay?”

“Never better.” My defenses went up.

“Luci…”

“What?” My jaw stiffened. I didn’t like the inquisition. As if he had the right to ask me anything. “I was drunk, and I left. So what?”

Hansen lifted his finger to brush my cheek. “You have an eyelash.”

I turned my face, and I couldn’t take in a full breath. What the hell was happening to me? “You can wish on it. You’ll need it.”

He chuckled. “You’re probably right.”

After another beat of silence, I glanced toward the door. “You first?”

“Hey…” He leaned down, his lips hovering over mine. All the gentle emotion he’d had only moments ago was replaced with wanton need and lust. He continued, “I want you for lunch. Can we make that happen?”

I lifted on my toes and crashed my lips on his, not caring that I’d just applied red lipstick, and kissed him with a heat, a savagery of how much I wanted him. And he wrapped his arms around my waist, lifting me so my toes left the floor.

“Yeah, we can,” I said when he put me down. I grinned at the red ring around his mouth.

“We better leave or else.”

“You might want to do something about that.” I pointed to my mouth, noticing in the mirror over the writing desk, I had a slight ring too.

I liked this better. It’s just sex with Hansen. And I didn’t want to think about my past. My baby whom I lost before I was deemed never to have another. All those facts had no purpose in my here and now with Hansen.

“Get out of here, Holte.” I shoved him.
