“He’s been a great help. He’s managing the fields while Toreen works the fish tanks and such.”

“We just came from the fishery. That was where Carla and Danny were staying. She broke out in a rash. I’m not sure if she’s allergic to fish or just worried half to death.” Kitty said.

“I’ve heard some Earthers break out in a rash over nerves. It’s rare in dragons or even among my people.”

“We have a lot of unusual things not found in other kinds. I heard you have many herbal skills. I hope we can work together sometime so I can learn from you.”

“I would be pleased to discuss herbs with you.” Cretia said.

“So, when is the little one due?”

“Any time.” Her hand rubbed her large belly. “Toreen is nervous and excited. He can hardly wait.”

“Who is delivering?”

“Your mom or Betty. It depends on who I can get here in time.”

The males came back, and they said their goodbyes. She got on his back and they flew away. Again, she felt his warmth and nearly fell asleep on his back. He’d gotten over the arrogance that had irritated her in the beginning. Now he was just likeable and sexy. They were headed to the castle and they arrived quickly. Carla was already there, and they met her in the cafeteria.

“I’m not sure what to do now?” Carla asked.

“Tomorrow morning I’ll take you to another place. Cretia is looking for a cook or a housekeeper. They also have other jobs if those don’t suit. It’s close to the castle to make things easier with Danny.”

“That sounds good. Danny isn’t too happy about the military school.”

“Don’t worry about it. If that doesn’t work out, he can work on the farm. There are many possible jobs for him.” She explained. This would work out. Kitty just knew it would, but it would take time.

“Why don’t you just go to your rooms and rest and relax. Things will fall into place. Just know that they will.” Carla nodded. She wasn’t sure but she looked willing to hope.

“You’re giving things your best shot. I feel bad for that woman. Her boy needs some discipline. He’s making things so hard on his mother.”

“I don’t believe he means to. His father deserted them and every male that she‘s had since has been hard on her and that boy.”

“Why does a female put up with that?” Torr asked.

“Here females are valued. Back home not so much. Only a part of our males treat females good and love them. Our females want to settle down, at least most of them do. Males, on the other hand, at least a portion of them don’t want responsibilities. They want to have fun and worry only about themselves.”

“That is hard to understand. Here we are raised to value females and want a family as soon as we find the right one. Even those that are just lovers aren’t treated badly. Not by most of our males.” Torr explained.

“Earth and Draconis truly are two different worlds.”

“Your females will learn that they will have good lives here.”

“It will be a learning process. You saw the females at the fishery. They expect to be looked down on and treated as inferior. Time will show them that isn’t true here. Meanwhile, we need to handle them carefully. We’ll show them they have value.” She observed.

“I hope they will see that. When the next group comes, they can help them understand their place in this world.”
