"Have you ever considered going to school or something?"

"With what?" Candy laughed. "Honey, my looks are the only thing I got, and they will only get me one thing. Repeat customers. That ain't going to pay for no schooling."

I didn't know enough about the sex industry to say one way or the other, but I felt kind of bad for the woman. If this was what she wanted to do with her life that was one thing. But if she was only doing this because she didn't think she had any other options, that was kind of sad.

I'd know I couldn't save every street walker out there, but maybe I could do something for Candy. I'd have a talk with King about it when he arrived...whenever that was.

He better hurry the fuck up!

Chapter Eighteen

~ King ~

"Malloy!" I shouted the second the phone line between me and Spencer went dead.

"Sir?"

"I found Spencer." Or rather he found me. "We need to go. He's got people after him. Meet me out front with some guards and I want them armed to the teeth. Leave the others here to secure the estate."

"Yes, sir."

I turned to Borelli. "Thank you for your assistance, but I—"

"Go, go." Borelli waved a hand at me even as he started for the door. "I'll see myself out."

"Thank you, Mr. Borelli."

The guy smirked as he looked at me over his shoulder. "I think you can call me Vinnie."

"Please, call me King."

Vinnie nodded. "Good luck with your pigeon, King. If you need into my territory to get him, give me a call. Oh, and once you find out who is behind this shit storm, let me know. I'd like to get a piece of them."

"You don't think it's one of the other families, do you?" That was my biggest fear.

"It's not Petrov. I can guarantee you that. I can't say for the others. We're not close. In fact, we barely tolerate each other. They stay in their territory, I stay in mine, and we're all a lot happier."

That did not reassure me.

"If I find out it is one of the families and they have harmed Spencer in any way, I can't promise I won't go after them."

"I would expect nothing less from you."

I was glad we understood each other.

As soon as Vinnie left, I made sure my gun was loaded, added an extra magazine, and then headed for the car. I wanted to be prepared for any eventuality. No one was going to keep me from getting to Spencer, and I didn't care who I had to shoot to accomplish that.

There were several men in dark suits waiting for me by the car. Some I knew better than others, but if Malloy had chosen them for this mission, I knew they had my back.

"We have one mission here today," I told them men as I addressed them, "and that is to return Spencer safely to the estate. Nothing is going to stand in our way and if anyone tries, take them out with extreme prejudice. Is that understood?"

"Yes, sir!" they all shouted.

"Let's go."

I climbed into the backseat. Malloy climbed in behind me. Besides the driver, there was one other man in the front passenger seat. The rest of the guards would take another SUV and follow us. In total, we had eight men, including me. If that couldn't get the job done, we had bigger problems than I thought.

I gave the address to the driver. A moment later, we were underway. My knee bounced a little as I turned to stare out the window. I knew we had to obey traffic laws to some extent, but I wished we could go faster. The mere thought of Spencer being out there somewhere on his own was knotting my stomach something fierce.
