I was surprised by Terrence's laughter.

"She actually found me," Terrence said. "I guess I'm not the only one who wants you dead, King. O'Donnell is pissed that you took over his territory and he wants it back. With you out of the way, Ireland will have no choice but to reinstate him."

"That's not going to happen," King stated. "Even if you do kill me, O'Donnell is never getting Queens back. Ireland will bury him first."

Terrence raised his gun. "Then maybe it's time for a regime change."

The burst of laughter that left King's mouth was just as surprising as Terrence's had been. "You really think you and O'Donnell can take over Queens and Ireland?"

"Who says it will just be them?" Two more men stepped into the limited light shining from above the door.

I squinted as I stared at them. "Darren? Harry?"

What the hell were they doing here?

"You caused us a lot of trouble, Spencer," Darren stated. "I was nice enough to let you crash on my couch and I asked one little favor from you and you had to go and fuck it all up."

Gee, that made me so sad.

Not.

"I said I would drop off a bag for you, Darren. I never said I would deliver drugs." I refused to be a drug mule. "If it was so important to you, then you should have done it yourself."

"You were supposed to do it and instead you handed it all over to King." Darren was so enraged, I almost expected him to stomp his foot at any moment. "Do you think I would have let you crash on my couch if I had known you were going to betray me like that?"

Wow.

Darren and I hadn't been best friends or anything, barely friends, but I didn't expect him to admit he was just using me.

"So, wait," I said. "Are you the one that hired that bitch to kill me and King?"

Darren snorted out a laugh. "We hired her to kill King. She wanted to kill you all on her own."

"Queens is run by the Irish," King said. "As I was explaining to this traitor"—King pointed to Terrence—"Those back home will never allow you to take over, even if you do kill us."

"It doesn't matter who betrayed who," Terrence said. "You are both going to die today."

I stepped around King and plastered myself to his front, burying my face in his chest. I could feel the heat of his rage wafting off of him as he pressed a hand to the back of my head.

"Walk away now," King said, "and I won't kill you."

Someone behind me snickered.

"There are three of us, King," Terrence said, "and two...well, one and a half of you. I think we have the upper hand here."

"You'd be wrong."

I stiffened when I heard a gun cock.

When King started pushing me behind him, I resisted. I didn't want him to get shot again. I lifted my head and looked up at King. His green eyes were flooded with regret.

I sent him a small smile as I slid my hand inside his suit jacket until I felt the butt of his gun. I wrapped my hand around the handle and slowly slid the gun out of the holster.

King's brow flickered, so I sent him a bigger smile, and then turned and pulled the trigger three times with deadly accuracy. I was sliding the gun back into the holster before the bodies even hit the ground.

"Can we get some ice cream on the way home?" I asked. "I'm craving some cookies and cream. Doesn't that sound good?"

"Yeah, ice cream sounds good." King blinked down at me before raising his eyes to look past my shoulder. "Um, baby? How did you know to shoot like that?"
