“I’m not…”

“Hurry home,” she ordered.

“Yes, ma’am,” he said, then hung up.

Zadie rocked slightly with Cody in her lap. “Did he mean they were all coming here?”

Meryn winced. “Probably.” She looked at Cord.

“We’ll use those low heated tables Ryuu introduced. I’ll get them set up along with a light meal,” Cord said, before giving a low bow. “Thank you, Meryn. What you did today, it will not be forgotten.”

She just gave a half shrug. “It’s kinda what I do.”

“I’m also sending food to your bedroom so you can retire the moment you can.” He wagged a finger at her. “To bed, the moment the men are home and not a second later.”

“I know, I know.”

Meryn’s phone dinged and she looked down.

When the small woman closed her eyes and let her head drop back, Zadie feared the worst.

Sniffling a bit, Meryn looked at her. “He made it.”

Zadie sat back in relief. “Thank god.”

Meryn snorted. “If you’re thanking anyone, thank your superhero. He was instrumental in the surgery being a success. You should reward him later.”

Zadie raised an eyebrow. “By playing vacuum?”

Meryn just smiled. “Hasn’t failed to produce smiles yet.”

Zadie shook her head and cuddled Cody close. She just had to wait a bit longer, then her mate would be home, and she would be complete again.

Chapter Twelve

By the time Kincaid made it back to Éire Danu, his unit brothers were waiting for him in the queen’s antechamber. Off to one side he saw his mate and Cody and over where Meryn had been running everything Aiden now sat with her in his lap as she yawned and got comfortable.

Aeson hurried over. “Is it true, he’s okay?”

Kincaid smiled. “He’s better than okay. They have him resting now, but he should be home by tomorrow. Rheia is amazing. I don’t know how she did the miraculous things I saw without magic.” He motioned with hand like he was sewing. “She was stitching up veins.”

Aeson’s eyes widened with admiration. “Then we will have to send her an extra special “Snack Party” starter kit.”

He was about to turn to his mate when she was suddenly at his side. “You’re okay right? Meryn said you had been shot.”

He leaned down and kissed her gently. “I’m fine. Heath patched me up so I could help Leon. Just feeling a bit bruised.”

He saw Cody watching everything with huge eyes. “Did you take care of Ms. Zadie while I was gone?” he asked, in a serious tone.

The little boy nodded solemnly. “I even kissed her forehead to make her feel better.”

“Excellent work! We’ll make a warrior out of you yet.”

Cody beamed.

Kincaid looked around. “Where are the other kids?”

Zadie pointed to the courtyard. “They wanted to help, so Kyrn got them settled at the house and they began setting up the classroom.” She kissed the top of Cody’s head. “Someone became an escapee,” she teased.
