How is that possible?

I had her in my arms, she should have immediately been able to tell. Fuming and confused, I growled commands at her before striding out the door, because I do have an appointment. One that involves killing the men who tried to sell and hurt my scent match.

Now that I know, I’ll do anything to keep her safe, even if it’s from her damn self. I hid all the knives and weapons in the safe room so she won’t be able to rush me when I get home. I may have to cuff her to a damn bed to calm her down. She should be resting after everything that happened last night, and instead she fucking pulled out her IV and attempted to run from me.

“God save me from crazy omegas,” I grunt to myself as I drive to the gym. It’s almost twelve-thirty, and I’m meeting with Arthur soon.

I want to speak to Jasper before Arthur arrives at the gym to see what he found out on his run with his fighters. He’s effective at getting information through training, I mean fucked up torture.

Smirking as I imagine the pain they must all be in by now, I park my SUV and climb out. It’s not as busy right now, since most of my fighters are still recovering from their morning run, and this place is a cover for our more nefarious activities.

The gym is a good loss leader since while our fighters pay a membership fee to train here, it’s nowhere near what it should be. We do that so I have something to claim on my taxes, but the underground fights are what lines my pockets, along with the gun running.

Locking my vehicle, I nod at Jas as I see him walking toward the entrance as well. I have a few men in here who are pretending to train that are my enforcers Arthur won’t pay attention to.

The idiot thinks all fighters are meat heads without two brain cells to rub together, a lesson he learned from my father.

It’s something I heard often from him, even though he occasionally hosted fights because he enjoyed watching the bloodshed. Instead, I saw the passion and drive in some of the fighters I watched.

Which is why I started to frequent the underground fights more often without my father knowing. It’s how I met Jasper, and how I started backing fighters and making money while waiting for the reins of the family to be handed to me.

My father died last year, but I’ve been the head of this Firm in Chicago for about two years before that. I guess the old guard is going to lose one more member today, because he chose the wrong omega to hurt. Maybe I should have some remorse for this, however, karma is coming for Arthur Bailey today, and I’ll be its weapon.

“How much are our fighters going to hurt this afternoon?” I ask with a smirk as I open the door to the gym.

“I was an asshole,” Jasper says with a chuckle. “Gabriel is a hard nut to crack, I needed him to be exhausted so his defenses would be lowered, so he’d tell me what I needed to know.”

Sometimes, interrogation doesn’t have to be about torture in the form of knives and cement blocks for shoes.

“Let’s go back to my office then so you can tell me all about it. There’s also been a development with my new house guest,” I mutter as we make our way across the open space to my office.

Jasper’s piercing gaze moves over the gym, and I notice that my enforcers stand taller, even using better posture and form as they work out. Jas has a way of making you want to perform better, even when you’re pretending to be a fighter in training.

“So she finally woke up?” he asks as I unlock my office. Holding a finger up to quiet him, I open the door and turn on the light before stepping inside.

Jasper rolls his eyes because he knows what’ll happen next, but walks inside and closes the door behind himself as I pull out my phone to scan for electrical listening devices. I don’t trust anyone except for the man inside my office with me.

Once I know there’s no one listening to us, I drop my phone on my desk as I sit behind it.

“She woke up,” I confirm. “Cerenity was freaked out by me. Even when she confirmed that she knew who I was, she ran from me. I think a part of her thought I was working with Arthur, and another is she’s scared of alphas. She fucking ripped the IV out of her arm.”

“Holy shit,” Jasper says, eyes wide. “I know the test said she wasn’t raped, but I feel like she may have been traumatized by alphas in the past, boss. We don’t know anything about her.”

“I know she’s my scent match,” I blurt out before I can stop myself. “Cerenity smells like apple pie and mine.”

Jasper’s blue eyes gaze at me for a moment before he takes a deep breath.

“Fuck. Did she react in any way? Does she know?” he asks, trying to process the information.

He’s also feeding into my worries as well. I don’t know how I was able to rein in my need to claim and fuck her, outside of very good control, and the knowledge that she was in no condition for me to do any of that. The question is why didn’t she react to me?

“Jasper, it’s the damnedest thing. She’s so fucking stubborn. Fought me even though she almost passed out a couple of times doing it, and then insisted on butt scooting down the stairs,” I explain.

Jas snorts, rubbing the scruff on his face as he listens. “I still think there’s some major trauma she’s working through,” he grunts. “You’re a big fucker, but you wouldn’t hurt her.”

“Never,” I promise. “I may need to handcuff her ass to my bed, but that’s about it. So I’m following her down the stairs, and for some reason I called her a good girl. Fuck, if the little omega doesn’t shock me by perfuming. She even looked surprised by it before she squeezed her perfect thighs together. My pupils blew wide as I smelled her and my entire body chemistry changed. Cerenity gave no indication that anything was different.”

“Did you tell her you’re scent matches?” Jasper asks, frowning. I know he’s probably worried that I came on too strong, but he doesn’t need to be.
