Page 76 of A Forever Love
“That’s damn right, baby.”
He wraps one hand around the back of my neck, his thumb tracing my fluttering pulse point. The world around me shuts off when Carter leans in. His other arm wraps around my waist, and when his lips touch mine, warmth spreads throughout my body like a bushfire.
I could die happily right now.
“So does this mean you’re finally going to make love to me?” My voice comes out breathy, but I’m beyond caring right now. Carter tries to hide his smile, but I spot it anyway. “What?”
“I’ve never had anyone request sex so politely, mittens.” His lips curve into a slow smile, sensual and dangerous.
“I’m not requesting. I’m demanding.” I try a stern lilt.
“Then I have no choice, do I?” Carter’s grin deepens, but something in his words causes a tight ball to form in my chest, growing until it consumes my heart.
“I want you to want me not because you have no choice, but because you chose me, despite all your other choices, Carter.” The words leave my mouth before I can stop them, and Carter places a finger under my chin.
“I couldn’t help falling in love with you, Merida,” he says softly. “Not because you made me promise, but because, despite the promise I made to myself to always do what’s best for you, I can’t bring myself to be away from you.”
“Say that again.”
“I love you.”
“I love the sound of it.”
“I used to say that all the time, mittens.”
“But it sounds different now.”
“It’s meant differently now.”
“What next?”
“I don’t know. Maybe we have some breakfast, catch up on some work—”
“What?” My eyes almost shoot out of my eye sockets. He’s talking about food and work after all this, while I’m stunned and frustrated?
Carter lets go of a loud laugh, and I can’t even be mad, because he really had me there.
“Look at you, mittens. I’ve seen you craving ice cream, books, and even that age-defying vampire of yours, but you look the best craving me.”
“I’m not craving anything.” My words are nothing short of a giggle when Carter all but grabs me and leads me to the bedroom.
Instead of going to the bed like I expected, he places me on the edge of my desk, and with his foot, shuts the door behind us. “I don’t want an audience, not even the furry ones.”
“You’re funny.”
“That’s one of the many talents I’m going to demonstrate this morning.” With that, he crushes his lips against mine and grips my waist. His tongue swirls in my mouth, and he tilts his head, trying to get deeper and pushing me into the wild world, which is made of magic and love, the promise of fulfilling abandoned dreams and forgotten wishes made on blowing dandelions.
His kiss is a little rough and exactly what I’d expected. Raw. Consuming. Unforgettable.
My tongue finally catches up, and I rise from the desk, trying to climb him with my arms hanging around his neck. I want him close. I want him inside me—and I’m not talking about his dick, but I want Carter King living inside my heart like he’s been living in my mind rent-free for so many years.
“You sure?” he asks, moving his lips down to suck on my neck.
“Either I’ll leave the room thoroughly fucked or with your dead body, King.” I move my head to the side, giving his lips more space.
He pauses for a beat and then looks up into my eyes. “Thoroughly fucked, you say? Then I’m not stopping before I have thoroughly done so.” His lips are back on mine, sucking all the air out of me, letting me know what those words mean in reality.
I kiss him deeper, my tongue fighting with him for control, and the response is glorious. His fingers lift the hem of my shirt, and with the confidence that he possibly exerts in the meeting room, his hand goes inside my underwear and straight to my core.
