“What did they do to frighten you?” I paid attention now, because she was flustered when I got there and instead of finding out why, I’d fucked her. Not gonna say that I regretted that, but now my interest piqued.

“Don’t know. They stared. Watched me. Maybe they were waiting for me to leave? I dunno. But I was alone and…”

Stepping forward, I cupped a hand on her cheek, half expecting her to pull back or slap me. But she did neither, her eyes locking mine, soaked in worry, vulnerable, breath-taking. Fuck, I was distracted again. I’d seen the truck in the carpark. Maybe I’d thought the same thing. But then she was there, coming at me and I was consumed, distracted, horny as fuck.

“It’s ok, Heidi. It’s ok to be scared.”

“I’m not scared.”

“But you were. I get it.”

She scowled at me, those blue eyes darkening as if storm clouds had pulled right across them. She was stunning when she was angry. She was stunning every time I looked at her.

“Look,” I continued, a little more cautiously as she looked like she might just tip over into homicidal, or rip my dick off, and neither was good. “You were alone and three men in a truck pulled up. I get that must have been scary.”

“One, you wouldn’t understand, Fury. You’re a man. Being alone will never be as frightening to you as it is to us.” Her eyes flashed with fire, bright blue, searing hell fire. I was distracted again. “Two, someone is sending me death threats…”

“Thought you didn’t believe they were genuine threats.” I shrugged.

Heidi pursed her lips together.

I sighed, knowing I was pushing way too far.

“Ok, ok. I’ll pull the CCTV. See who they were.”

“There’s CCTV here?”

I smiled. The cat who’d got the fucking cream.

Chapter Twenty

“There’s CCTV here?” I tried to hide the squeak in my voice as my heart jolted to life in my chest.

Shit.

“Yeah. I installed them.” Fury shrugged, grinning like a fucking schoolboy. Crystals of rain sitting in the loose strands of his long hair.

“And you didn’t fucking tell me?”

I glanced at the doorway to the church, where the priest had disappeared inside a few moments ago. What if he was checking his CCTV now? My cheeks burned.

“I didn’t really give it much thought until you’d mentioned that truck. Don’t worry, doll. I’ll get it cleared.”

I stood there watching him. Waiting.

“What?” he asked, confused.

“Well go on, then. Get that CCTV wiped.”

“I can’t just swan into the fucking church and ask Father Leverett to hand over the recordings.”

“Well, you’d better do something. And quickly, before he has a heart attack.”

“The only heart attack he’ll have is when he wanks off to it later. I’ll get it wiped, babe. But later,” Fury continued when I scowled at him.

“How?”

Fury tapped the side of his nose, smirking. I never really got the urge to punch people, but fuck me, I wanted to put my fist through his smug face right now. And the fucker couldn’t have looked sexier if he tried.
