A momentary hesitation pricked his brain. “If I’m too..”

“The only ‘too’ right now is how long you’re taking,” she moaned.

James didn’t wait any longer, sinking himself fully inside her with one stroke, pausing as she adjusted to him.

Her hips wriggled, as she rocked back meeting his thrusts, her body coiling tighter. Reaching between them, he stroked and plucked until Cami screamed, her body pulsing tight around him. James wrapped his arm around her waist holding her up as he lost himself in her heat, finding his own release.

Fuck. His chest heaved as he lowered them to the bed, rolling her so that her back was nestled against him and threw a thigh over her hip.

His breath was still ragged as he lay inhaling her scent and tried to make his brain function. That had been, by far, the most intense sexual experience of his life. An emotion he chose not identify filled his chest.

Cami shifted forward as if to get out of the bed, and his arm snaked around her, keeping her in the bed.

“Where are you going?”

“Just going to get cleaned up.”

“Hm,” he muttered against her neck as lethargy turned his muscles to lead. “Later. Time for sleep.”

“James.” Her voice held a note that he didn’t like. One that sounded like she was going to be rational and say something he didn’t want. Like she was leaving.

He gripped her chin between his thumb and forefinger and turned her face back to his. “Go to sleep.” He pressed his mouth against hers, nipping her lower lip. “We aren’t done yet.”

CHAPTER SIX

“Do you need a ride somewhere?” James brushed a hand across his mouth. Part of him wanted to make an excuse to keep her near, but his sense of self-preservation reminded him he needed to get away from her as soon as possible.

The first thing James felt, when he woke that morning and realized the rumpled bed next to him was empty, was panic. And moments later, when he realized Cami had only gone to the guest bathroom to shower—relief.

Neither emotion was good.

“I’m okay.” Cami gave him a lopsided grin and wiggled her phone at him. “I’ve already ordered a car.”

A large wedding party was filling the hotel lobby around them, with several photographers issuing orders to the bridal party. James scowled when a face that looked vaguely familiar waved at him. He placed his hand on the small of Cami’s back and guided her to the revolving glass door that led to the street.

“I think that’s for me.” She consulted the app on her phone and angled her head toward a silver sedan at the curb.

Her warm eyes looked up at him, and in the bright light of morning, he could see the tiny flecks of gold. A tinge of red stained her cheekbones.

Ask her to coffee, a voice in his head yelled. James ignored it. Last night had been amazing. Frighteningly so.

Already, he was unconsciously creating reasons why he needed to see her again. It had been one night. Like they agreed.

“That was fun.” Cami’s face flushed a deep red.

“Yeah.” James cringed at how cold he sounded and hated when her bright eyes clouded.

“I’ll send you an email with our files on the Alvarez case.”

Shit. He’d forgotten the entire reason he was supposed to have contacted her in the first place. That was a bad sign. He needed to stay focused.

Cami suddenly grabbed the front of his T-shirt and yanked his head down to hers before smashing her lips into his. Instant heat shot up his neck, and his hands rose to cradle her head, but before he could deepen the kiss or pull her closer, Cami stepped back, a sunny smile lighting her face.

“See you around, Bloom. Let me know if you need any help with the case.” She threw him a wink and a little wave.

James ran a hand over his hair, suddenly aware that a group of people were watching him stare after the car, now disappearing in traffic. He gave them a dark glare before stalking back into the hotel.

Had he seriously been watching her drive away?
