“What time do you want me to schedule the meeting with the marketing company tomorrow? I know we don’t have the papers signed from Kip and Kevin, but I want the ad campaign ready to go so that it airs during the holidays.”

“Not before ten. Jax has been hard to get out the door lately. Drop-off at daycare might take a while.”

“I can go by myself if you want. We’ve already discussed what we want it to look like. This will just be finalizing details.”

“No. I want to be there.” Madison gave her a weary smile, and Cami couldn’t help but wonder if something else was going on besides Jax’s teething.

“Everything okay? Nothing else bothering you?”

“Like what?”

“You seem tense is all.”

“Just kid stuff, promise.”

Cami studied her for a second. If anything strange was happening at Madison’s house, like smears on the glass, she would mention it. She took Jax’s safety too seriously. It was most likely just kids in Cami’s neighborhood messing around.

“Is everything okay with you?” Madison gave her a funny look.

“Great.” Cami flashed her a sunny smile, making the mental decision to not tell her friend about the close call with the car in the parking garage. Madison had enough on her plate right now.

CHAPTER ELEVEN

“Mr. Bloom, I have Ms. Pearson on the phone for you again.”

James didn’t glance up. “Take a message.”

When he failed to hear the door shut again, he looked up to where his secretary hovered in the doorway. “Is there something else?”

Loretta’s lips folded into a grim line. “I don’t like to bother you with this, but… There have been several phone calls from various women’s groups in the city. The Junior League of Buckhead is especially determined. They said they’d spoken with you about a luncheon last week?”

James’s brow wrinkled. He vaguely remembered an email.

“I’m not speaking to any of those groups. Send a blanket email and copy them all.” James didn't bother to set down his pen.

Last summer, he spoke in front of a women’s group after Luke insisted. When he was done, he’d been inundated with women who had an aunt, a sister, a niece that they just knew he’d have so much in common with.

Loretta was still hovering. “And there are two women in reception waiting to see you, but I can’t find any record of an appointment.”

“Send them away.” The muscles at the base of his neck tightened. This was getting ridiculous.

“I can’t.”

James scowled at his normally efficient and amenable secretary.

“They're talking to your brother.” Loretta’s lips pinched at the corners.

James closed his eyes for a moment and prayed for peace. “Then he can handle them.”

“James is right in here.” He heard his twin’s voice approach the door and let out a vicious curse. His secretary bounced a nervous look between him and his brother, not sure who she should listen to.

“It's all right, Loretta,” James said, as Luke appeared beside her. “What do you want? Some of us are trying to work.”

He almost groaned aloud when he recognized the two women standing behind his brother. They were the same two women from the bar the night he saw Cami.

Cami. A memory of her citrus scent tickled his nose, and his stomach clenched. He shook himself.

“Shannon and Alanna were telling me they ran in to you the other night, but that you said you couldn't participate in their auction anymore.” Luke's ear-to-ear grin told James his brother was enjoying this.
