All righty then.

“Hey, Madison, don’t you need to get home?” Madison lifted her eyebrows. “I know Jax has been keeping you up at night…”

Cami chuckled, letting the words trail off. Kip frowned.

“I know he wasn’t expecting you to be out so late. You should probably get home to him before he gets upset.”

Madison brow wrinkled briefly before understanding dawned, and her eyes twinkled. “He does have a temper,” she agreed, coming to her feet.

She looked down at Kip’s crestfallen face. “I’m sorry to cut the evening short, but I’m sure you understand…” Madison grabbed Cami’s hand, pulling her to her feet. “Thank you so much for meeting with us today. We’re looking forward to working with you again. At Home Meal Kits is a perfect fit with the Murder She Spoke audience.”

Madison gave Kip and his entourage one of her dazzling smiles, and several of the male assistants gave dumbstruck smiles back.

“You both have to go?” Kip’s smiling face had morphed into an expression more closely resembling the toddler Madison needed to get home to than the adult he was.

Shit.

Cami met Madison’s eyes. “I can stay.”

Her friend glanced between Cami and the group. “I’m not leaving you here alone,” Madison said under her breath.

“It’ll be fine,” Cami insisted. “Get home to Jax. I’ll stay another hour and then—” She was briefly distracted when a new woman joined them and began immediately fawning over Kip. Cami let out a relieved breath. “He’ll get distracted, and I’ll take off. This deal is too important.”

Madison chewed her lower lip, her giant blue eyes worried, somehow making her even more beautiful.

Seriously, if I didn’t love this girl so much, I could hate her. Even exhausted, she’s stunning.

“But—”

“Go. I’m a big girl, and you have Jax waiting for you. Besides, this Lexie girl seems more than happy to entertain Kip.”

Madison hesitated, torn between leaving her best friend at the bar with a lecher and going home to the child who needed her. “Go.” Cami gently pushed her toward the door.

Unfortunately, the new arrival didn’t hold Kip’s attention the way Cami had hoped. She remained standing, hoping it would help with a smooth exit, but Kip had come to his feet as well.

“You can all go.” He waved his hand dismissively at the five assistants he traveled with and his business partner, Kevin. The assistants all sprang to their feet, eager to keep their famously temperamental boss happy.

Oh no. That can’t be good.

Kevin leaned back on the sofa, making it clear he wasn’t leaving. Kip scowled at him, but Kevin only stared back with a bland expression. Kip shooed the few lingering assistants away and came to a stop next to Cami.

“Kip, let’s get another drink,” Lexie cooed, glaring at Cami.

You are welcome to him.

“That’s a fantastic idea!” Kip drained the small amount left in his pint glass. However, when he straightened, his arm brushed Cami’s breasts, and she stepped away, certain it hadn’t been an accident, but her knee bumped the table causing several glasses to topple over.

“Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry!” she exclaimed, her face heating.

Lexie laughed. “I think someone’s had enough.”

She meant to embarrass Cami, but she could have kissed the woman. “You know, I think you’re right. I should go?—”

“No,” Kip whined. “It’s too early. You aren’t going to claim you have a man waiting for you, too?”

Cami arranged her face in disappointment and smiled apologetically at the young women who appeared and began sweeping up the mess. “Unfortunately, I do. He gets super jealous when I’m late, so I should?—"

“If he’s super jealous, why are you with him?”
