Cami frowned. She was pretty sure that wasn’t how it worked, but if James didn’t seem worried… Right now, she was more concerned at how hot watching him fight had made her. It was easier to think about that, than what Justin’s betrayal meant.
“Layla left pretty quick,” she joked.
“Can’t say I blame her.”
It wasn’t until they stood under her porch light that Cami got a good look at the other side of James’s face. “Oh my god!”
James touched the wound on his head. “It’s not bleeding anymore.”
“We need to get you some ice! Why didn’t you tell me he’d hurt you?”
Cami grabbed his hand and tugged him through the door and into her kitchen. “Sit here so I can reach you better, you freaking giraffe.”
James gave her a ghost of a smile but dutifully braced his hands on her counter and lifted himself to a sitting position.
Cami retrieved the first aid kit from the cabinet and quickly filled a plastic bag with ice. Wrapping it in a dishcloth, she returned to stand between his knees. “You should have said something. It’s a head wound.”
“It didn’t hurt much at the time. Adrenaline. I was more interested in burying him.” His mouth hardened into a flat line.
“Still.” Cami frowned, lifting the bag to lie against the wound. “It’s really swollen. Maybe you should see a doctor.”
His hand reached up, holding hers in place. Long fingers engulfed her hand. The contrast of cold beneath her palm and the heat spreading up her arm, and down to throb between her legs, made her head spin.
She was definitely going to hell.
“I’ve had worse. Swelling is actually a good sign,” James assured her.
Standing this close, Cami could smell the clean scent of his aftershave mixed with his cologne. His fingertips stroked over her hand where she held the ice pack in place.
Cami forgot to breathe when his eyes pinned hers. She shut hers against the intensity she found there even as she swayed forward.
James leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss against her lips. Cami didn’t mean to moan. She really didn’t.
“Open your eyes.” The command in his voice wasn’t helping her get control of her body. “Open.”
The gravelly words against her lips sent lust spiraling through her. Her eyes flickered open to find his face hovering just above hers. Her knees turn to jelly, and her body melted.
James grasped her chin between his thumb and forefinger. “Is it the wound or the fighting that turns you on?”
“I… I…” Cami couldn’t escape his gaze, couldn’t look away from the heat there. The gray of his eyes darkened until the pupils seemed to bleed into the irises.
His fingers tightened on her chin. “Which is it?”
“The fighting,” Cami whispered. She should be embarrassed, but something raw flashed across his eyes, just before his head dipped again and his lips claimed hers.
Standing between his thighs, her head held captive in his grip, James’s mouth slanted over hers. His tongue swiped and explored, emitting a low hum of approval when she matched his urgency.
James’s free hand skated down her back until he slipped it under her skirt and cupped her ass, curving under to lift her until she was nestled tight against his erection.
Cami moaned as he used the leverage to grind her against him. She gasped for breath as he freed her mouth, his lips and teeth skating down her neck until he reached the tender skin where it met her shoulder. She felt a sharp nip as his teeth closed on her and then the warmth of his mouth as his tongue soothed the spot.
“Holy shit,” Cami muttered, the vibrations of James’s chuckle against her skin making her crazed. “What the hell is wrong with me?”
She didn’t realize she’d said the words aloud until James chuckled again. “Nothing I can see.”
Cami threaded her hands through his hair, freezing when she grazed his wound and he hissed.
She tried to step back. “I’m so sorry. We shouldn’t.”
