“That’s a nice way to greet your husband.” Steve shut the door, but he made no move to come closer.

“Sorry. It’s just a surprise. How was everything?” She knew better than to ask for details. “Everyone’s good. I heard you went out with the girls.”

“Yes. Kelly insisted.” She smiled, waving her hand. “You know what she’s like.”

“I’m glad you went out. You’ve been working too hard,” he said softly. Neither moved, an awkward distance between them.

“I know I have. It won’t be forever I promise.” She looked at her handsome husband. His brown eyes, which seemed to peer into her soul and those arms.... His biceps strained against his t-shirt. For a fleeting moment she considered telling him about this client to get his advice. Not an option. Attorney-client privilege. Plus, she couldn’t go running to Steve every time she had a problem at work. This was nothing compared to the situations Steve faced with his team.

You chose to be a lawyer, Diane. This was your dream. You need to be able to handle difficult clients.

“Come home with me.” Steve’s voice brought her out of her thoughts.

“I can’t. I go to court in a week.”

Steve walked forward and braced his arms on the desk. His brown eyes were intense, and he’d set his mouth in a grim line.

“We need to talk, Diane. I’ve taken some leave from work, and I need you to do the same. Isn’t our marriage worth it?”

Her heart seized. He’d taken leave? She swallowed nervously. He’d never done that before.

“Steve, I can’t. Not now.”

His gaze didn’t waver.

“Is there someone else?”

The question took her completely by surprise. He thought she was cheating on him?

“What? You really think that? You think I would do that? Jesus, Steve. I’ve been working. That’s it. But if that’s what you think then, Christ, maybe there is a bigger problem in this marriage than either of us thought.”

Rubbing the back of his neck, Steve straightened.

“So, you admit there is a problem?”

His face was tense and sad. She couldn’t bear it. It was all just...hell she didn’t know what it was. She was exhausted and miserable, but the one thing she did know was, regardless of what was happening between them, she loved Steve. It pained her, he doubted that. She was unhappy with her life, with herself, and with her current situation, but she would never stop loving her family.

How to make this right? Diane got up, moving around the desk to stand in front of him. It was late. Surely almost everyone had gone home. Her office was private, fifteen floors up. Unless you were the window cleaner, you couldn’t see in when the door was closed.

“I would never cheat on you,” she said, pitching her voice with quiet intensity. “You were my first love. There has only ever been you. I know things aren’t good, but I would never do that to you. I love you.”

She placed a hand on his cheek. The simple touch sent shivers down her spine. Like a light switch, all it took was a simple touch or a look from him to turn her on. It had been a few weeks since they had made love, and her body heated. She had missed him and craved his touch. Making love with Steve took her out of her mind. Her thoughts. Her reality.

Instead of returning her touch, Steve looked at her warily. The sadness in his eyes mirrored her own. To reassure this amazing warrior she loved him, she cupped his face, fingers tingling against his beard. She brushed her lips against his. He kissed her back, his beard tickling her chin. He was gentle, but he didn’t move.

But the feel of his lips ignited every nerve in Diane’s body. It had been so long. Too long. It wasn't that she didn’t want him. She was just so damn tired all the time. She kissed him now, again. Harder. Her tongue traced his lips, pushing to get inside.

Steve groaned and opened his mouth. His hands grabbed her ass, pulling her against him. Their kiss grew hot in seconds as Diane frantically pulled at his t-shirt, eager to touch him, feel him. Desperate to escape her life, just for a little while.

Steve broke the kiss and pulled his t-shirt off over his head. Immediately her hands splayed over his chest, up over his pecs, his shoulders. God, the man was one big muscle. So hard. So damn sexy. He had gotten even more handsome as he’d gotten older. The beard was a recent addition, but she loved feeling it brush her skin. Especially when he went down on... When his mouth sought hers, taking control in the slight domineering way she loved, she gripped him tighter. His erection pressed against her, making her pussy clench, and her juices flowed, hot and wet. He pulled her hands off him and spun her around until her back was pressed against his front. His lips trailed warm along her neck as he lowered the zipper of her dress. She wriggled out of it, letting it fall to the floor. When his hands cupped her breasts through her black satin bra, she moaned. Then one hand moved lower, plunging under her panties and finding her sex wet and throbbing.

“God, Angel, I want you.” His low growl sounded in her ear.

Diane couldn’t answer as her mind focused on his fingers rubbing against her clit. It was always like this, him bringing her to orgasm in minutes. Today it was even quicker, since it had been weeks. When one finger slipped inside, she tightened. Pushing back into him, she squirmed under his touch and surrendered to the pleasure. When he added another finger, she rode them, thrusting her hips to get them deeper inside. His other hand pushed up her bra and tweaked her nipple. A small cry escaped her lips.

“You coming for me, Angel?”

“Yessssssss!” She barely got the word out before the orgasm sent her spiraling out of control, gasping for breath.
