And with that text, Quinn came to the conclusion that Viki was delusional. She might be right that Joel loves her, but she didn’t see that he loved her for what she allowed him to do. He had no respect for her and actually looked down on her for cheating on her husband, which was insanely hypocritical of him, considering he was cheating on his wife.

I'm part of that support system.

I keep telling you that whores and sluts don't become girlfriends and wives. I will never leave Quinn, and even if I did, I wouldn't make anything official between us. You will always be my little slut who gets railed in the ass at a seedy motel because, deep down, you know that's all you deserve.

I'm done. Just stay away from me.

Sure, Viki. See you in the airplane bathroom.

Quinn sighed and took the screenshots, sending them to Tenn and Deedee. Then she got a shower at the highest temperature she could stand. While the water pounded down on her shoulders and back, she thought over everything she had read.

She had been with Joel for ten years and had never, not once, gotten any indication that he was into what he was doing with Viki, and she came to the conclusion that her husband was, at best, an asshole and, at worst, a sadist with a Madonna/whore complex. She now believed he had cheated on her for their whole relationship and was pretty sure the only reason it hadn't affected things before Viki was because he hadn't found someone willing to put up with the way he treated them for very long.

When Quinn got out of the shower, she dried off, put on her favourite, most comfortable pyjamas, and climbed into bed, feeling stomach sick. She made a mental checklist of everything she would have to do with her new knowledge of her husband's extramarital activities. She saw her phone blinking and checked it to find a text from Tenn.

What the fuck did I just read?

Quinn smiled sadly; Tenn had just learned a lot about his wife, too, and she felt horrible that she was the one who had to tell him.

I know. I just got the hottest shower I could stand, scrubbed until it hurt, and I still don't feel clean.

Is he abusing her?

It's more like he's degrading her, and she's really into it.

Jesus, no wonder the sex was shit.

Right? I thought Joel was vanilla and boring. I’m both glad I don’t have to deal with it and irritated that he was so shitty in bed with me.

It was his attitude when they had sex that made Quinn believe he had a Madonna/Whore Complex. He was vanilla to the point that she had believed he was a virgin when they met for a long time.

I don't know if I should feel bad for her or get her evaluated.

She has severe daddy issues.

Yeah, her father isn't in the picture; I was never told why, just that he left when she was thirteen. She and her mom are super close, though, and there's nothing abusive about their relationship; it's very loving and sweet.

All I can say is that Joel seemed to have found his perfect sidepiece until she decided she wanted an upgrade. I'm ninety percent sure he's cheated on me throughout our relationship.

I'm so sorry, Flacara; you deserve so much better.

So do you.

I'm going to have to be tested for STIs, and that's not humiliating at all.

You and me both. Tomorrow? We can go to Planned Parenthood together before we get groceries.

Why not? Alright, I'm going to see about getting an appointment online for tomorrow and then go to bed. See you in the morning.

Looking forward to it.

Me too. ??

Chapter Thirty-One: Confession

Early the next morning, Quinn was up and in the kitchen, putting together a shopping list for the Mario Kart sleepover while she sipped on some peach green tea. She hadn't slept very well, spending most of the night tossing and turning, fighting off waves of nausea, or sleeping fitfully and having nightmares, before finally giving up and getting out of bed at five-thirty. Hearing footsteps in the hall, she looked up to see Joel in his “travelling clothes,” a pair of worn jeans and an old t-shirt, standing in the archway.

“I thought I heard you up and about. Everything okay?”
