“Thanks.” I smile up at him, grateful my brain felt the need to finally kick into gear.

“You’re very welcome.” I could cum just from the sound of this man's voice. “Are you here alone tonight?”

“I am.” I nod, taking a sip of my drink.

“Then I guess it’s my lucky night.”

“Oh, really? How so?” I shoot him a flirty grin.

“Because I get the honor to sit next to a pretty lady and have a drink with her.” He winks. “If she doesn’t mind.”

“She doesn’t mind at all.” I lick my lips, letting my eyes trail over him again. Oh my god, does he have tattoos peeking out of the top of his black dress shirt? Fuck me. Literally.

He holds out his massive hand. “I’m Kai.”

I take his in mine and nearly groan at his touch. “I’m De—Daisy.” I start to say my name but think better of it. Tonight, I think it really would be best if I’m not Delaney. Delaney has never been this lucky before.

“Daisy,” he practically purrs. “It's a pleasure to meet you.”

Trust me, buddy, the pleasure is all mine. And if I have it my way, that pleasure is going to be in so many more ways than one.

Chapter 10

Delaney

It’s been hours since Kai sat down next to me at the bar. With each drink, the conversation started to flow with more ease as my little bit of nervousness drifted away.

Thankfully, the bartender didn’t card me. If he did, he would have outed me that I am, in fact, not twenty-five.

It wasn’t the only thing I embellished or fibbed about. He may think I’m a twenty-five-year-old dancer who’s passing through between shows.

It’s not a total lie; I used to dance as a kid. Would still be dancing if I didn’t break my ankle in tenth grade. I was also on my high school cheerleading team.

But he doesn’t need to know that. Tonight is about being someone else, someone I could have been in another life.

What I’ve found out about Kai is that he’s thirty-five, loves history, and is a traveling photographer.

I’ve been lost in his stories all night, engrossed in every detail of his travels to Rome and Greece.

All the places I’d love to go to someday. He’s already lived my dream. I’m kind of jealous.

“Wow,” I breathe in awe as he shows me some photos he’s taken on his phone.

“Trust me, photographs don’t do them justice. To just sit there and slowly take everything in, I could spend hours just reveling in the beauty this earth has to offer.” The way he talks about it sounds like he misses it.

“Where are you off to next?” I ask as he puts his phone away.

Kai sighs, eyes on focused on the drink that both hands are wrapped around. “No idea.” He shrugs. “I’m thinking of staying in the US, see what beauty our country has to offer.”

My brows furrow. “You're telling me, of all the places you’ve been, you haven’t traveled around the United States?”

“Nope.” He chuckles lightly. “The way I saw it, if life was giving me the opportunity to see the world, I needed to take it while it’s in the palm of my hands. I could easily get in a car and drive across the country, spend a whole summer seeing what needs to be seen when the time is right.”

“I like your way of thinking.” I take a sip of my drink.

“Getting all the major traveling out of the way while I’m young was also one of my goals. When the time comes to settle down with someone I love and have kids, I want to make sure I didn’t miss out on the things the world has to offer.”

“That's what I’ve always wanted to do,” I tell him. “Sadly, it was never in the books for me.”
