His life kept getting messier.

He would never allow his son around his mother for fear she'd run off with him, and he'd lose Tyr. Knowing she lived with a—dragging his hands down his face—hell no, he would never let her near Tyr.

"Peer, are you coming to bed?"

He raised his gaze. Coco stood in the hallway. He wanted nothing more than to go into her arms and let her comfort him and convince him that everything would be okay.

But it would never be okay as long as Kelli was in his and Tyr's life.

"I, uh, need to leave." He cleared his throat. "Elling called."

"Oh." She stuck out her lower lip. "Will you be long?"

"I don't know."

She frowned. "Is everything okay?"

He shook his head. What could he tell her? He knew nothing about what was going on, only that his family was threatened.

She approached him. "Can I do anything to help?"

"You already are." He kissed her forehead, not trusting himself to say more. "Lock the door."

He grabbed his unpacked duffle from the coat closet and left the house. Not knowing what he would find when he came face to face with Kelli and Mitch Simmons, he wanted to be prepared.
