I narrow my eyes at him. What game is he trying to play?

“No, he’s not,” I say through clenched teeth.

Alyssa looks back and forth between me and V. “You two know each other?”

“He’s just one of my ex-boyfriends,” I say, downplaying everything V and I once shared.

His smile flattens. “Come on, I’ll take you home.”

He walks out of the store, and the cashier looks uncomfortable as he pretends to busy himself with stocking the shelves.

“Seriously, can I hand my keys over to this guy, or is he going to like murder us?” Alyssa asks me.

I’m sure V has murdered a lot of people in his life, but he wasn’t a danger to either of us. At least the man I used to know wasn’t a danger. Who knows what kind of person he is now.

I let out a sigh. “He’s not going to murder us. Let's just get home.”
