“When will you learn that you NEVER cross a Sinclair?”

I laughed. Actually started laughing.

“What the hell is so funny bitch?” His face contorted, and my laughing made him so confused that he let go of my hands.

My laughter continued. “I was just wondering when you would learn not to cross me.” With a whoosh of air, my right fist connected with his jaw so hard I felt something in my hand crack.

It was enough to get him off of me for a brief moment, and I rolled onto my hands and knees and began crawling toward the edge of the bed. Reaching underneath, I pulled out a gun that I had managed to get my hands on in the few days prior.

I pointed it at him, but he continued to move toward me.

“You won’t do it, Samantha. You have too much of a soul.”

He pulled out his gun and held it up. “Besides, mine’s bigger.” With one swift movement, he knocked my gun out of my hands and hit me on the top of the head with the butt of his.

Pain radiated throughout my skull as I sank back to my knees. He walked over to look at the gun I just held.

Opening the chamber, he said, “Stupid bitch, your gun is not even loaded.”

“No…but his is,” I tilted my head toward the bathroom door where Detective Macintosh came walking out. “And so are theirs.” A few more men in SWAT uniforms piled out of the other bedrooms and into ours.

“What the fuck is going on here?” James looked around while waving the gun, not sure who to point it at.

“It’s over, son. Put the gun down,” the detective said.

“No. This isn’t possible. How did you do it? I’ve been watching your phone calls.” He stumbled over his words.

“See James, that’s one thing that I have that you never will. Friends. Real friends.” I recalled the past few days where I had recruited Emily to help me get my hands on a burner phone that I used to call the Detective who helped me put this whole plan in place…along with some added help from Tess and Gabe.

“It’s over, James. Put the gun down. We have everything on tape,” the Detective said, this time more forcefully.

“How?”

I took off the glasses I’d been wearing. “A little gift from the Boston PD. See that in there? Tiny little camera. Face it, James, you’re fucked.”

“I’m not going to jail.”

“Don’t be stupid, now! Put down the gun!”

He turned the gun on me and aimed for my head, but before he could get his arm in place, a gunshot echoed the room, and James fell to the ground, a bullet hole now in his skull.

I screamed at the sound, and as I looked down to see my entire body covered in blood, I began to sob. Gabe, who had been keeping an eye on Mason for me, came running in and looked me up and down.

“Jesus, Sam. Okay, calm down. I need you to breathe for me.”

Reaching up, I touched the spot where James had hit me, and new, warm blood coated my hands. My blood.

The world suddenly became very blurry, and I felt myself lose balance. The last thing I remember is Gabe’s arms catching me before I hit the floor. Then, everything went black.

Chapter 36 - Tyler

“Oh my gosh, I can’t believe how great that just went!” I exclaimed walking out of the tall office building.

“See? I told you, baby brother. You were leaving here with a deal.” My sister gave me a warm smile.

We had just gotten done with our meeting with her friend, Anton, and everything had gone perfectly. I walked out of there with a multi-million-dollar investment deal. I was floating on cloud nine.

“I have to call Sam!” I pulled my phone out of my pocket, but Tess stopped me.
