She nuzzled closer against his neck, kissing him lovingly. “We should make this an everyday wake up call.”
“I’m all for it, gorgeous.”
He gave her a few more moments of cuddle time before sitting up. With her still pressed against his chest, he stood up and carried her to the bathroom. Carefully, he sat her on the bathtub rim and kissed her forehead.
“Do you want me to grab you some clothes?”
“Yes, please.”
He nodded and walked out as she climbed into the bathtub and turned on the shower head. He chose a dress for her and grabbed some panties and a bra before returning to the bathroom.
“What do you feel like eating for breakfast, beautiful?”
“Just something light. Maybe some yogurt with fruit?”
He laid down the clothes and returned to the bedroom where he got dressed himself. He could still hear her in the shower as he passed the bathroom and walked down the hallway to the kitchen. He didn’t rush her as she soaked in the hot water. He could feel her sore muscles and admired her for how she just kept going.
As he cut her fruit, he couldn’t help but picture his future with her. He saw his two little girls running around as he fed them the same fruit he was cutting. A smile brightened his face as he imagined Niev trying to calm them and wrestle them into their highchairs so they could all have breakfast together.
When Niev had told him about her pregnancy, he’d been scared to death. The possibility of having a son had clouded his joy. Now that he knew he would have two little girls running around, his heart almost exploded in excitement. Though the anxiety about being a father was still very present, he knew deep down they would figure it all out. Warm arms wrapped around his waist as Niev nuzzled her face into his back and took a deep breath.
“You look handsome today.”
“I thought I looked handsome everyday,” he teased.
She giggled and let go of him, pulling herself on the counter so she could sit next to him. “You do, but today you look especially gorgeous.”
He leaned forward and kissed her forehead. “Thank you. You look like a treat yourself.”
She blushed and picked up her yogurt bowl. “How long will you and Seth be with those new customers?”
“Maybe an hour or two. They said they have a big property, but I’m not sure if they’re going to show us all of it. You can stay with Jason as long as you need. Seth and I will find something to do.”
“No, I don’t want you two waiting for me.”
“You haven’t seen him since you moved out. I’m sure you have a lot to talk about.”
“Like me fighting an oversized wolf or the part you had to free me from a beastman who wanted to take my children so he could turn them into his own incubators?” She laughed and shook her head. “I think an hour or two is more than enough to catch up on the normal stuff.”
“I’m sorry you have to hide all of this from him.”
“I don’t think I would wanna tell him even if I could.” She gently lifted her hand to cup his face. “Aren’t you gonna eat?”
“I was too mesmerized by you,” he chuckled and opened the fridge.
He quickly made himself a sandwich with her eyes tracking his every move. He loved this, enjoyed how peaceful his life had gotten with her around. Though they’d had their fair share of adventures, his life had somewhat calmed down. He was content with himself. The pain of not being the heir to the alpha title had eased. He still hated not being able to have his own pack but with Niev, he’d found his life’s purpose.
As if she’d sensed his thoughts, she asked, “Blake, are you still happy here?”
He looked up and saw worry in her eyes. “I am.”
“Are you saying that because you don’t want to hurt my feelings?”
“No, I am happy. Of course, it still hurts not being able to be an alpha, but this is far more than I could’ve ever dreamed of.”
“If you ever feel that it’s too much, or the pain is too strong, I want you to tell me.”
“I will.” He gobbled down his sandwich and helped her off the counter. “Do you have everything?”
