“I think you’ve been doing very well,” Blake praised, making her heart flutter.
“Niev and Blake have requested to look at the Goddess’ Tree within the mountains. I suggested we take a hike up there early tomorrow morning.”
Luna Charlotte’s eyes worriedly laid on Niev. “That’s quite a hike.”
“I think Fallon has made clear of that, though I don’t think Niev is one to run from a challenge. At least, from what I’ve heard.” Alpha Raymond crooked his eyes knowingly.
“I can assure you, Luna Charlotte, I’ll take great care of Niev and will make sure she doesn’t overstep her limits.” Though Blake didn’t feel as if his promise satisfied Luna Charlotte, Alpha Raymond seemed more than pleased.
The rest of the evening was met with curious questions from Alpha Raymond about the Skadu attack and the Lycan abduction. After dessert, Blake could feel Niev’s exhaustion, but knew she was too polite to ask to leave.
“Beta Fallon, what time would you like to meet tomorrow morning?”
“I would suggest eight.”
“Then I believe it’s best that we get some rest.”
Alpha Raymond got to his feet. “Of course. We should definitely meet again before you leave.”
“We would love that.” Niev stood up too and took Blake’s hand. “Thank you for having us.”
“I think the pleasure was all ours,” Luna Charlotte said with a warm smile.
As they walked back, Niev tugged her hand away from his and held on to his arm. “They were very nice.”
“I thought so too.”
“We have to let Ann know that we changed plans. You think she’ll be upset?”
“I don’t think so. I’ll offer a late lunch or early dinner when we get back.”
While Niev changed into her pajamas, Blake quickly sent a message to Ann, letting her know about the changed plans.
When Blake went to the bedroom, he found Niev already fast asleep, cuddling up under the covers, and he was all too eager to join her.
Gentle Soul
The next morning, they ate a quick breakfast on the porch while waiting for Beta Fallon. Blake had woken up before her and packed snacks and drinks for the hike.
“What did Ann say last night?”
“We’ll have either a late lunch when we return or an early dinner.”
“So, she wasn’t upset?”
“Not at all. I think she is happy that we’re here and will take whatever time we give her.”
“I just don’t want to be rude. We came here to visit her.”
“I think she is excited that we’re exploring and that she is glad we didn’t ask her to take us there.”
They both stood as they saw Beta Fallon approach. Blake grabbed the backpack and seemed relieved that she didn’t fight him on it. Weaving her fingers with his, they walked toward Beta Fallon.
“Good morning,” Niev greeted him.
“It is indeed.” He grinned with his eyes on Blake’s backpack. “Luna Charlotte insisted she pack us refreshments and food for the hike, but I see we may have a little too much now.”
“Better too much than too little,” Blake said lightly.
