Natalie was slightly younger than Christa, with warm dark eyes and hair to match. She respectfully came closer and smiled down at Niev.

“Beta Fallon has told me that you aren’t feeling well. Would you mind me checking your pulse and blood pressure?”

Niev nodded, hoping all was well with the girls.

Natalie stepped closer, unpacking her instruments from a leather bag. Beta Fallon had brought in a chair, so Natalie sat down and started taking Niev’s blood pressure. She quickly measured her pulse too before speaking again.

“Your heart rate and blood pressure are a little high, though it could be the new environment. I have a doppler and would like to listen to their heartbeats if that’s okay?”

“Yes, please.”

Just like Christa, Natalie needed a few moments to find the heartbeats. Niev closed her eyes and listened to the songs her daughters played for her. With each beat, her worries eased and she was sure Natalie let her listen longer than she probably needed.

Niev blushed when she finally opened her eyes again. “I’m sorry. I always enjoy hearing them.”

“There is no need to apologize. Every child is a miracle. I would also like to examine you if that is alright?”

As if that was his cue, Beta Fallon quickly left the room.

“That’s fine.”

Blake helped Niev get undressed and settle in the right position while Natalie got some gloves, a speculum, and gel out.

“I want to make sure your cervix is still closed and that you aren’t bleeding. I’ll be gentle.”

Niev nodded and took Blake’s hand in hers. Closing her eyes, Niev prayed everything was alright. After she was done,Natalie smiled reassuringly.

“Everything looks perfect. I don’t see any bleeding. I would suggest you rest for the remainder of the day. Only get up if you absolutely need to. I’ve heard that you’re a very active woman and I assure you that you won’t be bound to the bed for the rest of your pregnancy. As soon as you’ve rested, and your body’sadjusted, you may leave the house again.”

“Thank you.”

“If you like I can come by this afternoon and check on you. If you feel the need for me to come by sooner don’t hesitate to call for me.”

“Okay.”

Natalie smiled down at her before raising her eyes to Blake. “I’m sure you know your mate better than any of us, so I wish you luck.”

Blake chuckled and leaned down to Niev, kissing her forehead. “I’ll try my best.”

Natalie left and Niev could hear her calming Beta Fallon as they walked out. Blake helped her get dressed again before pulling out his phone.

“I’m sure word will travel fast and I don’t want Ann to worry. She’ll be running this way as soon as she hears that Natalie paid you a visit.”

She nodded and closed her eyes, rubbing her bump and trying not to think about the boulder still trying to crush her.

“Niev, please talk to me.” He laid his large hand on top of hers, lovingly caressing her and the girls. “I can feel how unsettled you are.”

“I’m just overwhelmed, that’s all.”

Before he could say anything in response, the front door opened, and rapid footsteps rushed closer, led by Ann’s voice. “Niev, I saw Natalie come out of here. She tried to assure me that you were fine, but I was worried.”

Blake chucked and squeezed Niev’s hand. “I told you she would be worried.”

“What happened?”

Niev opened her eyes and smiled up at Ann. “I just wasn’t feeling well, a little dizzy.”

Ann sat down on the chair next to Niev. “All of this was far too much. You’ve barely rested the past few days. You’re alwaysrunning around.”
