“Just the three of you here safe and sound.”
Niev was glad that Blake’s voice seemed calm and relaxed. Her heart still pounded in her chest, and she had trouble keeping her breathing quiet.
“These two are gonna drive me nuts. I hope they fall asleep.”
Blake laughed and Niev couldn’t help but giggle.
“The ride back will be super quiet.”
Laying the phone on the couch, Blake leaned to the side and grabbed a tissue box from the side table. Still supporting her by holding her stomach, he handed her a few.
“Yeah, but the twelve hours until then will be hell.”
Niev quickly placed the tissues between her legs allowing Blake to pull out without making a mess.
“Just let them talk themselves to sleep,” Blake laughed.
“You haven’t seen these two the past few days. They’re going crazy.”
Taking the phone, Blake helped Niev to her feet.
“I mean I don’t blame them. They always get like this when anyone is close to their due date but I’m usually able to hide from them.”
“It’s catching up to you now,” Blake teased.
“Fuck,” Seth mumbled underneath his breath as Niev waddled to the bathroom.
When she returned Niev found Blake in the kitchen pouring two glasses of water.
“They’ll drive me crazy too, won’t they?” Niev asked, almost regretting her decision to include them. “I mean I know they mean well but…”
“You don’t need to explain yourself to me, but yes they will, and I hope I can calm them for you.”
“I’m already nervous and exhausted as is, I’m just afraid I’ll snap at them or something.”
“And if you do that’s totally normal.”
Taking a sip of water, she tried to calm her nerves that were flaring up and made her all giddy–and not in a good way.
“They understand what you’re going through and know this is even harder for you. Today was my last run, so I won’t be far. When I feel you get overwhelmed, I’ll run to your side. I’m sure my wolf won’t let me get very far in the first place.”
She took a deep breath and leaned against him, using him as her anchor, not just physically but mentally as well.
“My wolf hated today’s run. He was fighting me the whole time.”
“Tomorrow when it has warmed up, I want wolf cuddles. I’ll grab a thick blanket and a warm water bottle, whatever it takes to keep me warm, but I need wolf cuddles.”
He didn’t need to answer, she could feel his wolf humming in the bond.
Early the next morning, Kareem and Ann came by to wait for their guests to arrive. Kareem left around eight to help them get over the mountain roads. Blake would’ve been able to do so, but he’d been honest when he’d promised he wouldn’t leave her side.
About two hours later, Ann, Blake, and Niev walked over to the garages to welcome their guests.
Ann hooked Niev’s arm into hers. “Look, Niev, I know how they can get and how you are. I promise I’ll make sure they behave.”
Ann and Niev had gotten very close. Despite Ann’s troubles conceiving, she’d been by Niev’s side throughout everything. They’d bonded over Niev’s pregnancy and long talks about Ann’s struggle. Ann had helped settle Niev into pack life while Niev had given Ann a sense of family again. Ann missed her sisters more than she let on and had now found a new one in Niev.
“Thank you. Please don’t be upset with me if I snap at any of you. I don’t mean it.”
