Page 72 of Claiming Her Alpha
“I see you haven’t inherited your father’s fine skills of politics,” Kendra quickly interrupted.
“I like getting straight to the point.”
“Maybe you can skip the curiosity for one evening and let us all just have a peaceful dinner.”
“I don’t see the fun in that but I guess you’re in charge. Does that mean I can’t ask your mate any questions?”
“I can take it,” Ryker chimed in.
“Perfect,” Rowan cheered and handed Ryker a glass of wine. He pulled Ryker away from the group, sitting in the back of the room while he began to bombard him with questions.
Just as Avery went to hand her a glass, there was another knock on the door. She grabbed her glass and went to greet Alpha Finlay, Beta Blake, and Alpha Brian from the Night Stars pack.
“Welcome! Come in, grab some wine, and find a seat. I think we’re all here now. I hope you don’t mind this whole evening being a little less formal.”
“Not at all,” Alpha Brian beamed and walked off.
Alpha Finlay, however, stayed behind. “I was hoping we could talk for a moment.”
“Of course. Would you like us to go into my office?”
“Please.”
Kendra pointed them in the right direction and followed the two men into the room. Instead of sitting behind her desk, she sat on one of the chairs in front of it. “How can I help you?”
Blake stood by the door while Finlay sat opposite her. “I would like to talk about Kent and Jenevea.”
She nodded, offering a kind smile and gesturing for him to continue.
“Have I heard correctly that he has been stripped of all his titles and privileges?”
“Yes.”
“What about Jenevea?”
“She is part of my pack now, though she has not yet accepted my offer to share the pack bond with us.”
“And the baby?”
“Lorena is a sweet, healthy, little girl who has stolen my heart.”
Though Kendra had expected more questions or even an argument about what had happened, Alpha Finlay nodded and stood up, ready to leave the office.
She spoke once again, halting them in their steps. “My gates will always be open to the ones who wish to visit both Jenevea and Lorena.”
“I don’t believe her family has overcome the shame she has brought on them.”
“I thought as much, but my offer stands. May it be a day or twenty years from now, whoever wishes to see them is welcome.”
“I will keep that in mind.”
She followed the two of them back to the main dining room where everyone had already started chatting and finding their seats. She found hers beside Ryker, who was still talking to Rowan.
As she stood there everyone slowly fell silent. “For the ones who don’t know yet, I have found my alpha and mate in Ryker, former lead warrior of the Blood Wolves. I hope it’s alright if we keep this less formal. I don’t mind losing the titles for a night and just chat along. Does anyone have a problem with that?”
“Not at all,” Rowan cheered.
“Says the one who has no title,” Avery teased. That seemed to break the ice and made everyone laugh.
