Page 75 of Claiming Her Alpha

“I have, but only for a few years. My father wasn’t up to it anymore and asked me to step in.”

“You and Kendra get along very well.”

He laughed. “Because she’s good at what she does and at the same time she makes it fun.”

“She speaks her mind.”

“Always has and always will.” Avery crossed his arms over his chest and narrowed his eyes, giving Ryker a stern look. “Don’t get me wrong but she’s my alpha. I know this sounds weird, but she is the one I obey. Though you hold the title, I will always answer to her.”

“I understand. I’m sorry if I gave you a different impression. I’m not here to take what is hers.”

“You don’t have a problem with it?”

“No. I don’t want to be in her shoes. I have always been obedient to my alpha, and I will do the same to my luna.”

Avery’s eyebrows were practically fused together as he tried to read Ryker. “You’re rogue.”

“Alpha Vallerian made me rogue before he left.”

“She was playing with fire by threatening him.”

“She was.”

“Let’s hope no one gets burned.”

Ryker got to work on the dishwasher while Avery put away the leftovers, stealing another piece of cake for himself.

“After you’re settled in, I’m sure Mike would love for you to join our warriors for a few sessions. Kendra comes herself at least once a week.”

“I wasn’t sure if that was supposed to come from me. I don’t want him to think I’m overstepping.”

“I don’t believe he will. I’m sure he’s eager to prove himself.”

Before he could respond, Kendra opened the door, her face bright in amusement. “Let us know before you leave, I want to give you something for Luna Sophia. I just haven’t gotten to wrapping it yet.”

“Of course.”

Gabriel left without another word, and it felt odd to not have a nudge to the shoulder or at least a goodbye. He knew their relationship had changed, but Ryker would need time to adjust to that.

Kendra stepped up to him and wrapped her arms around his waist from behind, pressing a kiss to his back. “Thank you. But if you like we can finish this up later.”

Ryker nodded and set the last plate inside the dishwasher before closing it.

“What did he want?” Avery curiously asked.

“I’m not completely sure. I didn’t really let him finish because it sounded as if he wanted to accuse me of using Ryker to spy on them. He said he talked to Ryker earlier about it but I didn’t like the sound of that.”

An amused smile spread on Avery’s face. “How did you shut him up?”

“I basically told him that he should know my intentions are peaceful, and I had enough to destroy Alpha Vallerian if I really wanted to–and I’d be more than capable of doing it myself.” With another kiss on Ryker’s spine, she quickly added, “No offense.”

“None taken.”

“Oh, and I told him I wanted to sit down with him one day and hear all your embarrassing stories. He said you might not like that, but I reminded him you had no other choice because I’m your luna.”

“Well, I’ll let you deal with your chief in command.” Avery laughed and walked off.

As soon as the door closed, Kendra pushed her hands under Ryker’s shirt. His skin instantly heated, spreading like wildfire through his veins. His wolf hummed in the back of his mind. as her hands slipped out from under his shirt and got to work on the buttons.
