“No.”

“There’s a steak house not too far from here and a store right next to it. We could have lunch and then grab a few things for the drive,” Isaiah suggested from the backseat, phone in his hand.

Asher followed his directions until they arrived at the steak house. Though she’d been snacking the whole drive, she needed some real food. While Asher turned off the engine, Isaiah hustled out of the back and opened her door for her. She was grateful he didn’t offer her a hand.

Inside, Asher opted for a booth but as soon as they stood before it, Velora demonstratively waited for both of them to have taken a seat. She didn’t care if she had to sit next to one of them, but she wouldn’t be trapped in one of the inner seats.

Asher shrugged and watched as she sat down next to Isaiah. “It was worth a try.”

She ignored his comment and looked up at the pretty waitress waiting to take their drink order. The girl’s eyes flickered between the men and her cheeks flushed before she not-so-subtly pushed her chest out. Given his playful grin, Asher seemed to notice too.

“Hello. I’m Kate and will be serving you today.”

“Lovely,” Asher chirped with a flirtatious tone.

The girl bit her lower lip before releasing it and asking, “What can I get you to drink?”

Velora rolled her eyes and spoke first, letting her know that someone else was there. “Coke no ice.”

The girl’s smile faded as she wrote Velora’s order down.

“I’ll have the same,” Isaiah said.

Asher leaned back and squared his shoulders, “I’ll take whatever you bring me.”

The girl’s flush deepened and she turned and left.

Isaiah shot his brother a glare across the table, but Asher only stared at the swish of the girl’s hips as she walked away.

Somewhere deep-down Velora could feel something stir and only then realised what Asher was trying to do. She ignored them both when the girl returned and focused on her menu.

“So what have you brought me?”

“Some home-made lemonade.”

“Seems like you have good taste,” he praised her.

That little seed of jealousy slowly grew larger, but Velora knew he was only doing so to make her snap. He wasn’t truly interested in her—the bond made it impossible for him. At least, that’s what she’d always thought, but she was also longing for someone other than her mates, wasn’t she?

Staring down at the menu, she tried to concentrate on what she was reading instead of listening to the back and forth before her. She only looked up when it was her turn to order.

“I’ll just take the cheeseburger with fries instead of wedges.”

“What kind of sauce for the fries?”

“Mayo.”

The girl wrote it down and gave Asher another toothy smile before leaving.

“Why don’t Isaiah and I take this to go and leave you here to fuck your brains out? I’m pretty sure she’ll do anything you ask of her,” Velora suggested in a flat tone.

“I wouldn’t mind,” Isaiah grinned, losing some of his seriousness.

Asher, however, simply stared at her, trying to figure out a response.

“She might be your last, so you better make it worth it. I’m sure the pack wouldn’t want an unfaithful alpha. Kinda hard to hide that with everyone around.”

“I can make it happen,” he snapped back, probably hoping it would hurt her.
